2017 GS350 FSport - can’t turn off display/stuck in restart loop
Hello all,
I am a week in being first time Lexus owner. My 2017 GS350 is great but I have an issue.
My my main screen cannot be currently turned off.
The volume **** has an Audio Off/Screen Off function.
So if I just press the **** “in” quickly the audio turns off successfully. Long press should turn the screen off but all it does it turn the audio off, makes the screen go black for 2-3 seconds and the Lexus logo appears again followed by the Warning message (same as if you’d start up your car). I attempted to try different hold down periods but to no avail.
I am stuck wiith the screen either being on or restarting to get back on. Never off.
It’s a big problem for me especially at night as I like to have as little light in the cabin as possible so I can concentrate on the road. I am hoping I am just doing something wrong but I doubt it as the screen does go off, it just doesn’t stay in that state.
Ideally, I’d also like to know whether there is a way to have the main screen completely off while hearing voice commands or music - when everything works as it is supposed to.
Holding the audio power/volume **** down does not turn off the display, it does a shut down/restart of the nav system. I am not sure if there is a way to turn the screen completely off.
It's very funny to compare such thing in Clublexus and MBWorld.
In clublexus, you always hear someone told you how to fix the problem yourself.
In MBWorld, most of the time you hear is go to dealer and ask for a fix.
I don't know why you didn't bother to ask Lexus dealer to look at this issue?
Okay it seems I just needed to sit in the car for a few minutes while not driving it to figure this out.
The option is on the main menu screen > right upper corner under “Display” which then gives you an option to “Screen Off”.
It is a bit confusing as the “Menu” text on the left upper corner is not clickable while the “Display” text on the right upper corner is clickable.
Now, I still think resetting the display should be a menu option, while using the physical volume **** should be what turns the display off....but it is what it is.

Hopefully this will will help someone:
I was about to post this, as it's the same way it works in my car. I think even in my previous Camry, it was the same way, too - Display, then Turn Screen Off.
However, they included the reboot function on the volume **** in case the infotainment system crashes. Think about it this way - what if the only way to turn off your computer was within the computer's UI itself, instead of providing a Power button? The difference here is that you can unplug a computer, whereas you can't "unplug" the infotainment system. Thus, you definitely need a way to reset it without disconnecting the battery (i.e. while driving).
