It was a good question but the answer is unfortunately dumb...
Lexus has added back in the digital display clock in the 2016's
Now, while the RX's and GS's change the time with a simple
menu setting in the Navigation screens...the ES's require
three (3) different methods to change over every DST cycle!
Nav menu for the Nav system clock, steering wheel menu
button(s) for the new digital clock and low tech "clock radio"
type buttons for the analog clock. By the time you get to the
last one you gotta check to make sure they are on the same
minute!

That is true. A $15k Nissan Versa Note has the around-view monitor as an option. However, even the $50k GS does not seem to have that. Toyota/Lexus is wayyy behind in the electronics/software department. And Tesla is just the opposite.

Lexus has been very used to using tech as pricing points. For example, PCS pre collision, has been available on just about every Lexus car for more than a decade. But only fully optioned models had it. Fast forward a decade and now it is common place on $30k cars. Lexus has to differentiate between a base ES and GS and they were used to using tech in part to justify a higher sticker price. Now though that tech is available on every car makers lineup for every car they make. Toyota is in a tough place, they want to keep control of tech and revenue streams that come from it. But if other car makers have Apple and Android and every kind of camera, sensor available on a $30k car, Toyota is going lose sales fast. The under 30 crowd is simply not going to buy a car that is tech( operating system) un-upgradable. Lexus has NO history of ever make the nav any better than the day you buy it. Apple just released iOS 11for free, it added and improved features for iPhones for free. Lexus just wants you to buy a new car. Good luck Lexus with that strategy going forward.
