Replacement Battery 2013
My 2013 cranks up rather slow. At this point I believe that the factory battery is near the end of its usable life. I was gone for a week for work and when I cranked it up this evening it sounded bad enough for me to want to replace it tomorrow morning. My radar detector also measured 11.7 volts with the car turned off... That being said, what is a good aftermarket battery brand that has worked for you? Thanks in advance.

I have a Walmart Everstart MAXX in mine . Perfect fit ,Group 24 with 700 cca. with 5 yr warranty and Walmarts are everywhere 24/7. Johnson makes their batteries for them and is the largest manufacturer of lead acid batteries ....http://www.johnsoncontrols.com/en_in/batteries
Use to pay for the fancy high dollar batteries but don't think it is worth the extra money after a $275 Oddysey battery went bad after 3 years in my 4Runner. They wanted me to ship it back to them to get less then half the money back. lol

I still have the off brand battery in my old Buick from June of 09. I know I'm gambling on it dying but now I just wanna see how much more time I can get out of it. I'm about ready to get rid of the car anyway. Getting a good battery is luck of the draw and brand name doesn't mean much anymore. Had a 95 Vette that I got 9 years out of the original battery and always kept a Battery Tender on it but, replaced it just due to age because I didn't want to get stranded in that car.

I went to the dealer and bought the OEM battery for my '13 GS350 and had them install it. It was an Interstate Battery that is top-rated. Price was about the same as buying an after-market battery and it included a full checkup of the electrical system to make sure the charging system was working as designed. I was in and out in about 40 minutes and enjoyed my free Starbucks coffee and a cookie.

Lexus Test Driver
I replaced OE battery recently (failed load test at 58 months usage) with a Lexus branded #00544-MF240-575 (Interstate) 7-Year 'Lexus warranted' battery.
The Lexus GS 350 takes a Group Size 24 battery. The original battery is rated at 580 CCA (Cold Cranking Amperes). It should be noted that hot/warm climates are far more damaging to vehicle batteries than cold/cool climates. Likewise, it is recommended that in hot/warm climates that the battery be load-test analyzed after it becomes two years old, and then retested annually each year thereafter. For cold/cool climates it is recommended that the battery be load-test analyzed after it becomes four years old, and then retested annually each year thereafter.
If you live in a hot/warm climate area do not make the mistake of choosing the highest CCA. The reason being - high CCA batteries are achieved by spacing the cell plates closer together, however high ambient heat can cause these closely spaced plates to weaken or sag, which can cause early battery failure (e.g. adjoining shorted cells). As the map below indicates Interstate Battery recommends their Mega-Tron II (600 CCA) battery for hot climates and their Mega-Tron Plus (800 CCA) battery for cold climates. As noted, a higher CCA is not the better choice for hot/warm climate areas.
Hot Climate recommendation:
Mega-Tron II (600 CCA) battery
Group Size: 24
24 Month Free Replacement
5 Year Warranty
Estimated Price: $118.00
Cold Climate recommendation:
Mega-Tron Plus (800 CCA) battery
Group Size: 24
30 Month Free Replacement
6 Year Warranty
Estimated Price: $138.00

Should I use a battery tender?
Hi everyone. I need to replace the battery on my 2013 GS FSport and was planning to do it myself. I don't have a battery tender; upon replacing the battery, do any settings reset? Do I need to enter a security or radio code? Its been a while since I last replaced a car battery, not sure if radio codes are used in modern cars.
Depending on the hassle factor, I might just spend $40 at a local shop for them to perform the replacement with a battery tender.
Thanks!

The trip computer resets. The analog clock stops ticking for the period you have battery disconnected. The power windows may need to be reset by cycling each window fully down/up once(although I didn't have this happen when I swapped mine). That's pretty much it.
No radio/security code.
