Default Hit Sharkfin antenna with garage door

I did this damage to the antenna as I backed out of my garage and the door was still rising. I know I know. Idiot. Anyway, does anyone know how to fix this problem? The antenna and roof are fine, but as you can see, it separated from the roof and I'm concerned about water getting in. I wonder if this is just a matter of getting to the internal bolt under the headliner and re-tightening it, or did I damage or break the internal base structure of the mount. I also wonder if I should get this fixed at a local shop or body shop - or do I have to go the dealer. I imagine it can be labor intensive to fix and I would like to do this economically if possible. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, either the sharkfin's mounting bolt was bent or the roof was dented, or both, to make that gap that is visible in your picture between the roof and the fin. I suspect the fin's mounting bolt may have bent or the nut stripped, which is something you may be able to straighten once you remove the fin to see what needs to be done.

Here is a video of how to remove the shark fin. Hope it helps...

That makes perfect sense. Thanks bclexus. I think the roof my be slightly dented. I assume this can be easily pushed back out when the antenna is removed. Thanks again.

My wife raced the opening garage door (she won the battle but lost the war!).
Somewhat more damage that yours, cost $400 for a new fin and another
$300 for a body shop to drop the headliner and straighten the sheet metal.

That roof sheet metal is crazy thin. I've noticed multiple times when I'm polishing or even washing the roof that the metal wants to push in. I'm very surprised it doesn't just cave in. Sooner or later they're going to stop using metal for cars. Saturn tried that 20 years ago...look where they are now.

Would this work for a GX 460 as well?

Yup you definatly dented the roof, no way the nut backed off from that hit, it's tight and has a washer.

The antenna would have to be removed PDR the dent, then put the antenna back on.
