Akebono Pads
Anyone got these? What is the difference between the pro-act and performance versions? Not very clear to me.

I have the pro act versions on my car, they are quiet and not a lot of brake dust compared to stock pads. many of us use the akebono pads here on this forum. As the lexus factory seems to experiment between quiet pads that leaves lots of dust versus non-dusting pads that are loud etc, the pro act pads have consistently been great balance of quiet, performance and dust over the years, on this gs and my old gs300

Got the Akebono pads with OEM rotors. No Squeaks and very little brake dust compared to OEM. Can't really feel a difference in braking since it installed 5000 miles ago.

Good feedback on this thread. I plan on changing mine out soon. Factory ones squeak way too loud when cold. Hopefully I can find ones that won’t do that.

If you've done the procedure, you'll see the amount of air bubbles that come out during the ABS purging steps. It certainly made a noticeable difference in braking feel on my car.

if theres air bubbles coming out then u got air in ur system, mybe that's why you feel ur brakes better after the bleeding. techstream just use to active the abs to so you can bleed out the air in the system but u still use the pump n hold to bleed it out.

I'm merely saying it's wrong to think that techstream is only needed to bleed hybrid Lexus cars, because regardless of gas or hybrid, you still need to bleed the abs in order to thoroughly flush out the old fluid and air . Air bubbles is an indicator that brake fluid needs changing, but even in the absence of air bubbles, your brake fluid still needs to be flushed due to absorbed moisture(and you can't really tell by looking at the color, there are gauges you can buy to check moisture content). If you do the pump n hold technique only, there's still a bunch of worn fluid stuck in your system.

I have used Akebono Pro Acts on several cars, they are very good brakes, quiet, inexpensive, much less dust and last longer then OEM. I would not say they improve braking performance but I did not find them to be any worse then stock.
