Standard Audio sounds better than ML?

No. I sometimes wish it had adaptive cruise control, like my new Volvo XC90, but there is nothing wrong with my car.
I have leased or owned BMW, Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, and Mercedes. They all had quirks and they all have online forums filled will whiny, know-it-all, hostile, obsessive, malcontents. The GS 350 is my favorite sedan. I would own a Lexus full size SUV if not for the high price, the fact that the Volvo was a much better value, and our kids liked the 3rd row comfort and A/C controls more than any others.

My GS has been a great car as well, overall.
Coming from the LS with the ML package was a let down, however. The JBL system in our Land Cruiser has much better low end sound. Our MB wagon had a terrible HK sound system but it didnt have the fancy B&O option. Paying extra for the ML in my GS seems to be less than top of the line.

Nothing wrong with demanding better. Especially when software updates could easily fix annoyances. If enough people “whine” Lexus may listen. You wouldn’t buy software that was never improved upon, so why the difference when it involves a car? Not like anyone is asking to move the axel back 6 inches. Besides, if you always pretend all is well, when it isn’t, then there’s no motivation for improvements.
Since the the option to upgrade tech was essentially removed from owners, I’d say we have the right to at least demand corrections to some software driven shortcomings.

Why does XM sound really bad on everything but HD FM radio sounds good?

I opted for the ML in my 2016 RX350 and found that the sound was clear but lacked mids and bass. A few people remarked that music sounded different and they couldn't recognize the vocals of some well known artists. I also had to set the volume to 10 numbers higher than the non-ML system in my 2014 GS350. I typically listen around the 25 setting, but with the ML I had to turn it up to high 30s to achieve the same volume.
I later traded in that RX for a RX450h and went with the premium sound instead of ML. I am just happier with the non-ML systems in anything but the LS model. I loved the B&O system in my Audi A5. It was killer and a cheap upgrade.

One huge problem with the ML system is the drivers side console switch bank resonance. It basically makes that speaker sound blown out with any amount of
bass, because in a ****load of 13/14/15 cars at least with ML, they all do it, given enough bass. You have to pop out the switch bank and tape that thing with electrical
tape to get it to stop vibrating. (thx to itzflyyo for posting a video on YT on how to fix this... easy fix!)
IMHO the ML system would be way better if the system actually had more than 3 EQ adjustments, that's probably the biggest achilles heel of the whole thing. If they added 2 more bands to the EQ and a sub level control, you could probably make it sound pretty amazing. Actually even a sub level control would probably make a
huge difference; bring up the low lows without adding more mud...
This is hard to explain, but let's put it this way. With the JBL premium system in my 2010 Camry , I could make that car thump pretty darn good without causing
ear fatigue- it was possible to make that system loud but not painful... it's a lot harder to do that with the ML... if that makes any sense.
It also doesn't help that most people are going to test the system with ASL and Surround on. Both of these are pretty much garbage and don't help at all. Or at least I don't think they do... they always made it worse.
All of this aside I'm still glad I got the ML; because if the std audio is anything like what's in my mom's 13 ES, that system doesn't put out nearly enough thump for any kind of bass heavy music.

I just assumed like you said, the speakers were blown but you described the issue I’m having , so is there any tutorial you can recommend ?As well as if you have anything I can EQ to fix the bass. I too hear it as muddy, it definitely has bass but I would like to do anything I can to fix it. Any tips would be great! Thank you

Hey, might be digging up old stuff, but I just picked up an awesome 2015 Gs350 F-Sport that has ML. You are the only one online who has described this driver side issue I’m having. I just assumed something was loose, I went to look up the YT video of the guy you referenced, but cannot find it. Is there any video you have that can show how to fix this ? I thought it was a rattle and it’s just been slightly annoying me , but I love the car still.
