Default Tire Damage at 9k

Front passenger tire

Rear passenger tire
Hi
I noticed today that passenger side tires on have slits on tire walls which look too perfect to be caused to curb rash. Actually there is no curb rash signs . The car is 2017 Gs 350 F @ 9200miles. Will it be covered by Tire Manufacturer.
Check the pics.

Looks like pothole damage to me. I doubt it'll be covered.

May be, but rim is perfect and so is the surrounding area of tire. Someone might have slashed the tire. Either they are made with a very sharp knife or the rubber is spliting (reason for warranty )These are 40 profile tires on a 19" wheel.

With no identifiable curb damage to the wheel, I would not expect that kind of damage to the tire. It looks like it is separating to me. I'd take it to the dealer to examine. With 9200 miles they may want to prorate it so if it is 30k tire, they'll knock 2/3 off the price of a replacement.

I think vclifford is correct. Looks like it was slashed.

Update: Didn't notice it was two different tires.

I'm going to disagree. It isn't clean enough to be a cut and it appears to be tearing along the line of the tire. You can make out the line where it will continue to split and it appears to be from the inside out.

A slash would not be so straight nor would the edges separate like that. My money is on sidewall defect, especially since there is no apparent damage to the external carcass of the tire, no gouge or missing rubber.

If it is a knife slash then it is surgery perfect. I recently bought the car (plates have yet to come) and did not notice it while checking the car, May be it was there, may be not. Bought the car at GMC dealer, Manager said he recently moved from a Lexus dealership and it was his car. At my place it is highly unlikely for such a think to happen,

I think it is rubber separating from ply, SInce these are low profile tires, they have this odd, thick ledge of rubber on side walls, There are no plies running through this section. I will take the car to Pep Boys, they are the nearest Michelin Authorized Dealer

If someone were to slash a tire, why would they do it there? It looks more like someone hit a pothole hard enough for the tire to separate.

Good plan. Michelin is a good brand and should stand behind their tire's quality.

I found this on another forum:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...ll-pic.403701/

At the end the guy says:

"*update* just called them since they never called me. They said it will be covered under warranty thankfully. New tire should be in tomorrow. "

That looks to be a defect in the tires. Assuming you bought the car new I would think the Lexus dealership would replace all four tires and deal with Michelin in order to take care what they do for you.

I know that my local Discount Tire store would take care of these defective Michelin tires right away without question.

@bclexus Lexus Warranty says Tires are covered by Ture Manufacturer but yes Lexus can help in facilitating that. I will have to deal directly with Michelin. I have a couple of authorized dealers around me but no Discount Tire Store. There is Mavis Discount Tire. I guess dedicated Tire shop should be better able to handle it.

peasodos Thanks for Pic, this defect looks similar

Ok guy. Title of the thread I linked to says "Tire warranty? 9k miles and a slit sidewall! "

Exact same issue OP has.
