Angry What's the point of the detent in accelerator pedal?

I know the Germans do this too but why? I think it takes away the pure feeling of going full throttle and it retards the downshifts unless u go pass the detent. It's just annoying.

It doesn't retard the downshift, it just allows you to get the maximum downshift on command. In cars that don't have this, there is a notable lag before the maximum downshift (this is because the transmission takes a second to realize you really want WOT before it goes to maximum downshift). Hitting the button let's the transmission know immediately that you want the full downshift.

IMO it's kind of useless these days with the advent of manual modes and paddle shifters.

With so much computer controlled technology, detents are more or less a hold over.

In the old days, things were cable controlled and that was the analog of a throttle position sensor.

My understanding is the button below the pedal is used to activate the direct injection on engines equipped with both Port and DI. Supposed to get a bit more power.

IMO its easier to mash the left downshift paddle until you hear the warning beep, lol. I love doing this on highways in my '16 gs. She wakes up and flies
