Default Largest Tire Size on 19" AWD

Currently have 235/40R19 on all four, 2015 GS350F AWD.

Any idea what the largest size I can go on the tires before scraping becomes an issue?

I'm on stock height so I have plenty of clearance between the tire and the wheel well.

I had 245/40/ZR19 on mine 2013 AWD and had no issues. The height of the tire was barely different so the wheel gap was still obvious, but the tires were slightly wider.

That is the exact tire size I was going to get (245/40; Michelin A/S 3+) but figured I might as well up the size even more if rubbing is not an issue. Every little bit of increased side wall helps on cappy roads.

If it's the sidewall that you want, downsize to 18" wheels.

My winters are 225/45R19. I think that's about the largest diameter you can go for 19s. With wheel turned about one full turn, the corner of the tire has just about 0.5cm clearance from the wheel well liner, can't even fit a finger between.

I think upsizing the sidewall for the rough northern roads is a good idea. But I’m pretty sure 245/45 will have a very slight difference in actual speed vs what the speedometer showed - can’t be more than 1-2 mph different, but likely something there.

It seemed like my 245/40’s were always 1 mph different than what my Escort Max360 or Waze app said. Obviously not a big deal, and quite possibly all in my head.

I am going to revive this thread if I can. I got a little feedback on an earlier thread, but want to see what you guys recommend.

I have a 2017 GS350 FSport AWD. Currently running the stock rims with 235/40R19 Primacy MXM’s all around.

I have ~49000 miles on the car and it is time for new tires.

I am considering going with the Pilot Sport AS3+. I see multiple people on here going with 245/40R19. Tire Rack recommended 255/35R19.

What would you guys recommend?

I have the same exact setup. I bought some AS3+ 245/40R19 from a CL member. Still haven't put them on. At 25K on the MXM4's still.

I got this done today at my local discount tire. I kept thinking, man, that front drivers tire looks huge. Well turns out one of the tires (only 1) was a 245/45r19. Oops. When I went back, they were out of 245/40/r19, so I drove to another store to get it resolved.

Pictures attached. Take a peak at the drivers side front and see if you notice.

How did the 245/45/19 fit? Any rubbing issues? I would totally go with 245/45's instead of the 245/40's on my next set of wheels if there was no rubbing. Also, how do you like the ride?
