Default Has anyone installed 15mm wheel spacers themselves?

I am running H&R 20mm on the front and when I hit large dips, it get a slight bit of rubbing. I ordered the 15mm H&R spacers and when they arrived, I realized they were different from the 20mm versions... The 20mm just slide over the OEM studs and bolt on with ease. The 15mm versions, you have to remove the OEM studs and install longer studs. It seems like a pain to install but, well worth the extra safety with not having 2 sets of bolts holding the wheels on. I haven't pulled the caliper and rotors off yet and was curious if any others have swapped studs? I'm curious if I can swap the studs with the hubs on the car or if everything must come out to press them out and new studs in.

Thanks - Todd

Hi Todd,

You can definitely swap out the studs with the hubs on the car, no need to do extra work.
1. You would just need to take off the caliper (two 17mm bolts) and the rotor.
2. Use wd-40 to make things easier if you need to.
3. Get a hex nut (recommend you have a few on hand just in case) that you can thread onto the end of the wheel stud but not all the way so the tip of the stud doesn't stick out.
4. Then just hammer the hex nut until you the stud comes off.
5. Repeat to the rest of the stock studs.
6. Insert the new extended stud.
7. Insert a bunch of washers onto the stud and the hex bolt at the end of the new stud and get a torque gun to rotate the nut so it pushes the stud flush onto the hub.
8. Repeat to the rest of the new extended studs.
9. Put back rotor, brake caliper, wheel and you should be good to go.

You can replace the studs...OR you can get the DRM style H&R spacers, which are just like the 20mm ones with their own studs.

H&R DRM (has its own studs, easy bolt-on -- these are harder to find, more info here)
15mm 3065602
20mm 4065600

Kevin - I have a few extra closed end lug nuts. I figure I can use those for step 3 and 7, correct?

You can if you don't mind banging up your extra lug nuts and I still recommend using at least one washer for step 7 so when your torquing the new extended stud, it wont do any damage to your hub.

Todd, is your car lowered? And if so what springs did you use?

Here is my diy stud removal, with a tool that makes it easy, and no hammer needed:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...irst-time.html

You can also use this to reinstall the stud:
