Oil Catch Can
Just wanted to get some thoughts on putting in an oil catch can. Coming from an '07 is250 that would have really benefited from it, I am wondering what the pros and cons would be when added to my '15 gs350. Anyone out there put one in?

But, I'm curious to know why you thought there would have been a benefit of having an oil catch can for your '07 IS250?

The IS250 engine is direct injection only and prone to carbon buildup. Oil catch can may not completely mitigate the problem, but should at least delay carbon buildup problems by reducing oil blow by. It's not necessary for the GS because we have dual injection which keeps the valves cleaner.

Oil catch cans aren't going to do much unless you have a lot of blowby, like a turbo or super charged engine. On a GS, I'd bet the monthly "Italian tuneup" would suffice.

Our cars are port and direct injection. The port injection sprays fuel on the backside and cleans the valves. That's why we don't have this issue.

Well, there is evidence that the catch can does a pretty good job on the IS250. Imagine that getting caked on the back of your valves. Can't be good.

Detergents won't do anything because the fuel never touches the backside of the intake valve. That's the inherent problem of all DI engines...

I find it pretty incredible that Toyota/Lexus didn't realize with all the extensive testing they do that the IS250 engine would have a carbon buildup problem.
