Default Taking the shine off the wood

I was wondering... has anyone tried to take off the shine off the wood trim(2014GS)? I love the trim but it attracts dust and fine scratches like nobody's business.. thought if the wood had a mat look then it may end up looking more premium and less prone to scuffs

Yes I agree matte wood finish looks great. I have matte bamboo in my 450h and it's the perfect finish for wood. I don't think you can wipe the shine off, maybe you can buff it to a more matte finish?

It will take the shine down but you don't know exactly what kind of finish/look you are going to end up with because you are hitting the clearcoat or whatever they applied over the wood so it may just look like scratches in plastic over matte wood. If you don't like the new look you will have to polish it and you may take away most of its clear and could ruin them. I don't think matte wood has any clear applied to it or it is a totally different type of clear with no gloss.

Isn't the standard wood in the 4th Gen GS kind of matte anyway, it is not as shiny as many other woods, not as shiny as the dark wood on the luxury package or woods on the 2nd and 3rd Gen.

I think you may be misunderstanding the 0000 grade wool.. it is more like 2000 grit water paper... You use it to finish wood to a satin finish... I am going to contact my local dealer and see if the perhaps replaced a piece for someone and have the old one around...

If they sprayed the wood with several layers of clearcoat to give it a very glossy finish the finish may look different then just using it on non coated wood. The smartest thing to do would be try it on a spare piece like you said.

Gotta love the bamboo steering wheel as well - a shame it was only offered for a short period of time.
