Default Bye bye to my 2015, need a replacement ride... you tell me!

So I decided that no one was going to get to work on time yesterday morning, so I shut down the northbound lanes on the I 95....

On impact, it felt like a cocoon with all those airbags enveloping me and my 15yr old son in the front passenger seat. Two cars lost control in the right most lanes on I95 going north and careened across 4 lanes of highway to end up perpendicular in front of me, 2nd lane from the left... no way to avoid. 3 cars totaled and 2 more damaged. All 5 drivers and my son escaped without serious injury. My son probably had it the worst, from the impact of the second car hitting the right side of the car, he has a bruise on his right arm from impact with the airbag.

2015 Obsidian with 27K on the odometer. Only got it 2 1/2 months ago and only put 1,600 miles on it since purchase. $35K in repairs so it is being totaled. Not only is the GS a reliable workhorse, it's one hell of a safe car to be in!

I've been considering my options and I can't think of anything other than a GS or LS. Before the GS I had an '03 Infiniti G35 with 270K on the odo and I still have an '02 Sequioa with 325K, so I keep my cars a looooong time. So there is no choice for me other than Japanese, and I want near-lux so it's Infiniti, Acura or Lexus.

The Infiniti was nowhere near as dependable as the Sequioa and it was a gas and oil burner, and I'm not really feeling their current line up.
Acura... so boring, and nothing other than the grandpa RLX and the MDX (not really wanting an SUV but a car) there's nothing to consider. (and I will laugh at anyone who suggests TLX)
So that leaves me with Lexus... everyone and their mom has an ES, so that's out. My restriction is my budget... even though I can do it, I cannot convince myself that a car pymt above $400 (5 yrs) makes sense. I will drop some $$$ down, but my desired OTD is $30K (which was the price of my 2015). I will stretch a bit for an LS, but not too much.

I readily agree that I'm not always the smartest guy in the room, so I'm open to suggestions.

Oh man was this yesterday? I got the alert for it I believe. Glad everyone is safe!

I would splurge and step up to the LS, if you prefer comfort over sportiness.

2013 lexus gs 450h with luxury package, less than 33k miles, mint for only $23,000.

Wish I had this option last year when I bought my 450h.

Was going to recommend the TLX A-Spec, but you put the kibosh on that already. Possibly a GSF or LS F-Sport? There's a red GSF for ~40k and most of the LS's were around there as well.

I would do a 2016.

not sure if LS is a car you want to keep for 200k+ unless you are a great DIY.

Sad to see it end this way but very happy to hear that injuries were minor. Thank you for sharing.

I would start your search and look for another GS if I were you.

Very sorry to hear and glad everyone is safe. Why question a repurchase of a GS? I like the LS fine, but a completely different driving experience. Also, one thing to keep in mind with the LS is you WILL be replacing obnoxiously expensive suspension parts as the car ages. No reason the LS can’t go 300k miles, but if you’re not a DYIer you’ll be buying the car twice, just in suspension repairs.

A buddy of mine wanted an LS for years ipand I always told him the same thing. He just bought an 07 LS (ran from 07 to 17 with a refresh in 12) from this **** retentive guy that did all service at his local dealer from date of ownership. The guy pulls out all receipts 49 total for the years and his last two were for suspension replacement parts and labor. $14k total for the repairs and my buddy bought the car for $14k. My buddy couldn’t be happier with it. It is absolutely mint and with new suspension will run another $100k miles before needing them again. Sweet ride for sure.

if we’re talking about not being the brightest bulb in the box...I’ll let the original owner of my buddies LS wear that crown proudly. He could have probably gotten $7k or more just selling or trading. Instead he got zero. I’d be a bright bulb and go with the GS. Hold out for a Lux package if that’s your preference.

Glad to hear everyone walked away from this. Do you have any idea who caused this accident? This is important in bringing a personal injury lawsuit against those at fault.
I'd urge you to find a good personal injury lawyer and get examined by doctors. In many accidents unless there's a serious fracture or dislocation, pain / discomfort never shows up until much later.

Man, that looks terrible, glad you and your son okay, but you must take your son to check up, he took a big impact.

That is a really good price for a Luxury Package with that mileage. Only thing I don't like is the interior/exterior color but I could probably live with it, I was thinking of 2 Luxury editions that color before I got my Black on black GS. I still would have jumped on that one if it was near me and I could get it for 22K.

Has the OP considered a Genesis G80?

Yeah the Bamboo and Light Gray clash imo. I would buy the darker wood trim and swap it out. I paid 28k for a non-lux 450h in mint condition with Flaxen interior 1.5 years ago.
I ended up buying and installing an original bamboo steering wheel for $400
Spending close to $2k for the triple led headlights(have yet to install)
Did the power folding mirror mod for my 2013
GSF aluminum paddle sifters
$1k for GS F tail lights
Added sound deader and closed cell foam to doors, under floor liner, under rear seat, and trunk.
Plan on wrapping my roof and all chrome trim gloss black
Plan on buying the 2019 Lexus ES 18" Noise reduction rims

I buy used car so I have money to spend on mods

I need to find you on the road so I can line up my JoeZ next to your hybrid and put all of your sound deadening and quiet ride efforts to the test!

Glad to hear that everyone is Ok. That looks like a pretty bad accident. It's good to know how our cars hold up when stuff happens. Good luck with your search for a new Lexus!
