That's sure allot of work to go from one atrocious "infotainment" system to another slightly less atrocious system.

Also the plug for the display out. These changes apply for all the sd card based nav units across the entire Lexus and Toyota lineup.

The 2016+ head units is a different story because the mousepad interface changed and the usb in the front console is different plug. I posted to another thread some Russian guy installing the 2016+ nav and it was a lot of rewiring to get it to work.

Fingers crossed this works out for me.
Check your DM. Sent you the connectors.

Benefits
sd card based nav instead of hard drive
easy to update yourself
free lifetime traffic and weather through HD Radio
should be less laggy than the hard drive based nav.

I only paid $300 for the 2015 head unit, should get at least half that back with my 2013 when I resell it, if this mod works out.

So the good news is the 2015 navigation works, the but when I put the car in reverse the backup camera does not show up on the display.

Would there be a setting that would disable the backup camera?

Right now I have the head unit connected directly to the back of the 12.3" display. with this cable:

Do you have any aftermarket connections (e.g., Beatsonic phone mirroring) or is it all stock?

There is your problem. I had the same issue with the BeatSonic, the reverse camera would not engage and I tried almost everything and was clueless as to what was happening. So I finally called them up and was told the "hard reset" procedure that is required sometimes and by sometimes, they mean everytime you unplug the battery (annoying!).

Here is what you do. Hook up everything as you normally do (nav unit + beat sonic, etc). Then "short" the output and input. Start the car up, let it do it's system initialization. Put into reverse, make sure camera is working. Turn off the car. Then plug the BeatSonic and nav unit back normally. Start the car. Put into reverse, it should now work as normal. I'm a little tied up right now but I'll see if I can find the diagram for the output/input I was talking about.

For some reason the 2015-2017 Beatsonic kit connects to the gps antenna and the 2013-2014 GS kit does not have this, not sure how that messes with reverse.

1) Hook up everything according to the diagram except connect the connectors marked in blue together and ones in green together. Start the car. Put into reverse. The rear camera should work and the BeatSonic unit is now "registered" with the car. Hard reset is complete, turn off car.

2) Put everything back according to the diagram. Start the car, the rear camera should work.

I am not sure exactly if my explanation is the solution since I have both the BeatSonic front camera (CS5EP) and Navi bypass installed so I did it with everything plugged in. Procedure could be different... @BeatSonic Want to chime-in dude?

Yeah this doesn't help me since I don't have the front camera module.

I removed the beatsonic and same issuie no backup camera in reverse. Must have something to do with the green plug display cable. Maybe the factory wiring doesn't go strait to the back of the 12.3 display, something else going on.

If anyone has ideas please chime in. So close to having everything working.

The only difference on the NDS6223EP for 2015-2017 GS models is that it requires an additional GPS wire to bypass the navigation in motion. The instruction posted by eddie420 is to troubleshoot front camera adapter install when the system does not register the cameras and is unrelated to the NDS6223EP

There is a difference on the camera systems between the 2013-2014 and 2015-2018 models as our CS5EP front camera adapter did not work with 2013-2014 models. Only an assumption but either are possible 1. Camera harness is different 2. Camera system is driven by canbus signals on 2013-2014 whereas 2015-2018 is driven by analog video signals.

Also, note that camera harness goes directly to the screen and not behind the radio which may be helpful when troubleshooting this.

Hope this was helpful.

I found out I can put the navigation system in diagnostic mode and test/diagnose the backup camera system.
DIAGNOSIS SCREEN TRANSITION (during parking assist monitor system initialization)

Also from the factory manual

Yes something is different in the 2015 backup camera system. I checked and the 2015 backup camera has a different part number than 2013. The parking assist ecu might also be different. I may end up having to replace the backup camera or some ecu to the 2015 to get this system working again.

ok when I put the nav in diagnostic mode there are no camera setting options. Basically with the 2015 Head unit the car does not recognize the backup camera system at all.
Next step I guess would be to compare wiring the diagrams of 2015 to the 2013-2014, see what the difference is.

Temporarily put back my original head unit, backup camera works now.

On a side note on top of live traffic and weather, the 2015 also shows the speed limit sign, and rendered picture of major intersections on the highway when you approach it. It's much better than the 2013-2014 nav.
