Trunk will not open

UPDATE:
So I brought it into Lexus Service, and initially my SA could not open the trunk either. He then started twisting the key in the keyhole while simultaneously pressing the trunk button on the trunk, and the trunk magically opened. Funny thing is that he did it a couple times and it worked, but on one of the tries the trunk would not open again. So he did the key twist and button click and it opened again. Trunk would not open about 3 times with the SA trying to diagnose it. He slapped some WD40 on the latch. Nothing was trapped in the latches, so the SA thinks it could be a bad latch. However, he told me a latch replacement would cost about $530 with a diagnose fee of $189. So, I decided to take my car home and slap even more WD40 on the latch and hinges. I did notice that the trunk would open if the trunk was gently closed, however any normal amount of effort required to close the trunk would give it a chance to be stuck again.

Sounds like the latch works, but the alignment of either the latch itself or the mating part is out of sorts and needs to be adjusted. The electrically operated latch is either good or bad - and we know it always works, right?

Sounds like you might be right bclexus, would you know how to align or adjust the latch/mating part? It seems like a DIY i could do. And I believe the electrically operated latch is good.

You should be able to look at it and determine if you want to tackle the job yourself. You may be better off taking it by a body shop and have them do it as you wait. They do it every day. They can probably do it while you wait. And, if they can do it quickly they may just be happy with a $10 bill and a 'thank you'.

I had the same problem today on my 2008 LS 460. While changing the cabin filter in the glove compartment, I had inadvertently hit the valet button there. Once I re-pressed it, the trunk open normally.
