Default Tightening up side view mirrors

My side view mirrors appear to be coming loose for some reason. I am experiencing extra rattle when closing the door. Anyone with the service manual able to post instructions on how to re-tighten up the side view mirrors?

Urs is motorized right? If u can take off the mirror part u may be able to tighten some screws in there. I think u can just pry the mirror off.

Nah, I got a 2013. Basic non-motorized version. I'll see if I can pop the mirror off. Non motorized as in not auto folding.

Keep us posted if your able to do it. Mine has been getting noticeably louder when shutting the door as well so I am curious if your able to tighten it up on your own.

Is it the mirror, or the housing that is rattling? If it is the housing, you will need to remove the inner door panel to tighten it.

Crap! I was afraid of that. It's the entire housing that rattles.

It's not really difficult to do. There are probably 4 screws that need to be removed (maybe 3) There should be one behind the door release handle, https://i.imgur.com/LLIQ5bv.jpg https://i.imgur.com/imoUMcm.jpg - in the arm rest handle https://i.imgur.com/8Wax6Lk.jpg - and below the switch panel https://i.imgur.com/1YRGxR8.jpg . You can carefully pry up the switch panel to disconnect it. There may be a screw on the outer part of the panel in a rubber stopper https://i.imgur.com/QbO76m0.jpg
There will be clips all the way around the outer panel. Get a panel tool to make releasing them easier. You can pull with your hands but may break one or two. (May break them anyway. They are cheap on Amazon, but get OEM replacements (can be found on amazon) The clips look like this and pop straight out https://i.imgur.com/KlOx4Xl.jpg

Once the panel is loose, this is the part I am not sure about since I haven't pulled these panels off yet. In most Toyota vehicles, you will pull the top panel away from the top as opposed to lifting. You can lift it but there may be a separate piece that will come off with this panel. If lexus uses this piece, it will have to be separated from the door panel and reinstalled first. It is nearly impossible to install them together. https://i.imgur.com/fgkPnMO.jpg

Make sure to disconnect the seat memory adjustment button switch (if you have one) before pulling the panel completely away. And any lower courtesy light you may have.
You will still have the door release cables attached. You can remove these if you want, pay attention to which goes where. But you don't need to. The panel should drop far enough down to allow access to the three bolts for the mirror. You may need to remove a clear plastic piece of tape to access one or more of the bolts.

This info is based on experience from removing panels on a 4Runner and an ES350. The GS should be very similar.

Don't do what that guy did in the video. Using a small screwdriver is probably going to damage the part. Do yourself a major favor, go to Walmart or Harbor Freight or someplace and pick up a panel toolset. They're like $6 it will make your life a whole lot easier.

It's not the mirror housing, it's the lens for the puddle lamps. Test by folding up a small piece of paper and wedging it in there and then shut the door- you'll see the noise goes away. When replacing the bulbs in there you have to put the mirror back together just right or that stupid little lens will rattle. Speaking from experience.

In my case it is the housing. The entire housing wobbles.
