Thanks in advance.
If it's the easy exit feature where the steering wheel retract, then it's to prevent the steering from retracting. It'll make the whole dash removal easy. You should disable it from the setting screen before disassembling the dash.

I really appreciate the level of detail and explanation you did in this task,
I am in the need to repair the dash for a deterioration of this. In regards of this suggestion:
Get Techstream from TIS or go to your local Toyota/Lexus dealer and ask them to disable the "Autoaway/Return function". If you do not follow this step, you will not be able to remove the dash (ask me how I know :P). You have been warned!

What would we the risk of not doing that? Here in Perú it is not and easy access to the dealership.
Thanks!

When you power down the car the steering wheel will retract and likely not give you the clearance to remove the dash part.

You can adjust this setting using the Carista app and a cheap Bluetooth OBD dongle.

the issue is related to a pre cut back panel behind of the vinyl. Seems that the vinyl is copying the precut which could help in a case of blowing the air bag

Precision, expert work with the touch of a skilled surgeon. Truly amazing to see what can be done when a car fanatic gives up blood and guts!

In theory, removing fuse TI&TE from driver side fuse box should cut power to the tilt and telescopic ECU. But I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if it requires initialization after the fact.

Hi,

Anyone know of shops experienced in replacing these Lexus dashboards in the NoVA area? Called a few auto upholstery shops around here and most don't do them or quoted some outrageous prices. I have a new IS250 dashboard from the dealer that needs to be installed, and the car was purchased after their melting dashboard replacement warranty period.

Thanks for any leads.
