Default Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Noisy?

I've owned the car for nearly 10 months now, bought with 51K, and put about 6,000 miles on it including several long trips. It had the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires on it when I got it. I don't remember the tires being this loud previously. Now that the "S" in the DWS has worn off the tires, they seem to be getting louder. The really odd thing is if I roll the windows down or open the sunroof, it doesn't seem as loud, only when it is all closed up and only above about 35MPH. Perhaps it is the lack of other noises and the general quiet nature of the car.

To be sure, I've checked the wheel bearings at all 4 corners, checked both the front and rear diff fluid. I know the difference between gear noise and tire noise and it is definitely speed related and not RPM. I figure I've got another 5-10K miles left in them.

Anyone have a well worn set of DWS that are getting noisy?

I did have some Extreme Contact DWS on a 3GEN, the older they got the louder they got.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I'll either live with it or find a quieter tire.

I've varied the tire pressure up and down a good bit with no real differences.

I'm also running DWS06 and I feel the road noise is more noticeable compared to the oem Bridgestones. Handling has increase in all weather conditions but you'll have a minor annoyance attributed with the slight increase of decibels in the cabin.

I think all tires get noisier as the tread depth becomes less.

Ok, good to have some confirmation that it is normal for them.

Also as rubber ages. 5 years max for me with tires and then they get replaced good tread or not.

DWS06 is a great tire, but it’s roar is notably loud. None the less I would buy again.
