3M Tape vs. Drilling holes for rear spoiler
Hey Everyone! I'm currently doing Mods to my 13 GS350 AWD Non - F Sport Starfire pearl I just recently moved to Los Angeles from Baltimore. I'm thinking about grabbing a spoiler for the rear I have seen some videos and threads "DIY", however I''m leaning towards using the 3M double sided tape industrial grade instead of drilling holes. Working in insurance I write repair estimates and work with body shops all day long most body side mouldings on vehicles are plastic just like the spoiler and they are attached with strong adhesive /double sided tape and it holds up from the factory so why can't that be done with the rear spolier??
Should I pull out the ole drill or just go with the strong adhesive. Thanks!

Tape is sufficient. Just clean/prep the surface properly and you'll have a fine bond..dont use adhesion promoter unless you never want to remove it.

Have the same ride as you - bought an OEM color matched spoiler and used a dremel to remove the bolts. An OEM spoiler will already have adhesive which is plenty strong. Mine is still holding up with no issues after 3 years with no drilling and only adhesive.

same here. Drilled from factory, drilled at dealer if after the fact. It’s not like we could decide we didn’t want it two years later and remove. The damage caused by adhesive causes a shift in pait color and sometimes texture anyway. Less questions IThe adhesion as the car ages whith factory method, but I do understand drilling hesitation.

Proper 3M double-sided automotive tape will attach that spoiler to the trunk like it was welded, and will last until the car is eventually crushed and melted down.

3M VHB tape is stronger than traditional fasteners and is rated to last 100 years.

But I also had it bolted on, so that helped that pressure helped the adhesive.

That's cool man! I love the color of our GS lol. Good Idea using the Dremel tool to remove the bolts I will try that or the angle tool mentioned in the earlier comment. Have you did anything to your stock wheels, I got a quote for $380 to powder coat gloss black
