Cold air intake does it worth it

I have the Takeda CAI. I like how it makes the engine sound. Has nothing to do with power, it's all about sound.

No increase in HP that's worth it and if you use the stock filter box, no change in intake noise, so basically worthless.
Your replacing a rubber tube with a metal one so there is not real world difference, and the source for the air entering the intake is the same.
Factory the car takes in the cooler air in from the front upper grill area, our car basically has a cold air intake.
If anything this metal pipe will warm up and make the air in the intake slightly hotter that the stock plastic one.

Generally factory airbox will always be best from efficiency. However the Tekada intake makes it sound much better over stock and is definitely worth it for that alone to me. You don't lose power with it imo so to me its worth it. I think the Tekada will give better sound over the HPS.

I too like sound. Takeda for the win.

I agree with most, you will get minimal gains if any with a CAI on a naturally aspirated car. The caveat to this would be a CAI with a tune possibly cams, larger throttle body and free flowing exhaust. then you'd probably see some gains as in net HP across the power band.
There is one thing that raises question though, on a stock 2013 GS the factory intake tube employs that baffle/ noise generator thing that hangs off the intake tube. I wonder if there would be minimal gains by going with an intake tube that omits that piece. For instance I notice the K&N tube doesn't use that piece. I am just curious if there is anything to be had for airflow/top end HP there.

Without a back to back dyno plots, they are basically a dress up part.

If you look for the engineering explained video, he says it’s only worth if you stay about 4K rpm otherwise you lose power ... or at least that’s where I thought I saw it lol
really it’s all about the sound, any hp gains or losses aren’t significant.

I got this if your interested

I had it in my last GS but haven't reinstalled it. Been eye candy on my desk

Unless your running a ECU tune or forced induction on your car’s engine, a cold air intake will add maybe 3-5 hp unnoticeable hp to your car. Yes it’s eye candy. I didn’t bother with it on my 4GS.

More than anything else, the filter is less restrictive. I know you all have seen the marketing material where they show air blowing through a traditional filter can't move a ping pong ball, but using the K&N type oil based filter, the ball moves. Smoke and mirrors maybe, but seems good to me.
