Default Used GS 350 vs. LS 460 ::egads:

I was interested in shopping GS but many things irks me
  • Price
16+ are selling around 35k which is right around 13+ LS price range
14-15 are selling 25k+ which is around where LS starts

  • Cost
Eyeing on F Sport trim and again tires options on GS are expensive
245/R19 on LS460 F Sport is less expensive, of course Air suspension is a pain (feature GS doesn't offer)

  • Room
Needless to say. LS there's even an LWB. Say what, Q70?

  • Power
LS is faster 0-60

  • Luxury
Although LS has execute seat package I don't want get it. I think both are pretty good

  • Sportiness
Love the V8 sound, but also the smaller package but...

  • Comfort
I am Texas, no curvy Mt. roads, but bumpy concrete roads

Sounds like you've decided on the LS. They are beautiful, cushy cars.

I am not sure what gave you the impression that the LS is faster though.

0-60 on the LS460 - Best I've found is 5.6 seconds, up to 6.0.

0-60 on the GS350 - Best I've found is 5.4 seconds, up to 5.9.

So the GS is perhaps a tick quicker, though I'd call it a wash.

These are two very different cars. There is no "vs" because they're not even the same type of car. What kind of pie do you want, apple or blueberry? there is no comparison other than the fact that they're both 4 door sedans and both Lexus products. I like both of them but I wanted a GS because most of my life I've had much floatier cars etc.

Do you have any interest in actually driving the car hard? If you're not the type of guy who has any interest in taking an onramp a little too fast and not caring, then just buy an LS and be done with it. (although the LS will still hold its own pretty well, but not like that... )

Thanks for your input Mike. IMO the GS is overpriced for a used car. For new you can get $6k+ off at $50k while used car sells at $35k.

Everywhere I see (Edmunds, Motortrend test) shows LS around 5.4s - 5.7s while GS350 shows 5.7s - 5.9s, but I'd say it's a wash. Both are similar the stock Accord 2.0T level.

Too difficult of a comparison because their target audiences are a bit different....essentially g for the LS if you want space and a softy, cushy ride. Go for the GS if you want a sporty ride with great handling.

LS vs GS... I went through that same exercise in September. For a car I meant to keep for a minimum of 10 years, for the money of a 13 LS, I could get a 15 GS with less miles.. it was hard to justify the LS. However... if I was going to change cars in 5 years or so, I would get the LS... no hesitation. I ended up with an 18 GS... go figure!

But every time I see a 13-16 LS on the road, I go... “ That could have been me.” ...sigh... There’s something about the quiet cabin, smooth ride and full size of the LS that has me hooked. The looks aren’t that great, it’s even a tad boring, but I’ve always wanted an LS...

But from a value standpoint, I had to go GS, the incentives were too sweet!

Good point. For the looks definitely newer GS or 18+ LS, the incentive on new LS is pretty sweet too, 15-16k off 90k, but one has to miss the V8.

I went through that dilemma myself, leaned heavily toward a LS460 mainly for the V8 and interior but I just could not find a good one for about a year that was priced well, every LS I test drove had issues, mainly suspension issues that were going to be costly and a PIA to address, and reading all the issues that pop up with the LS that are pretty expensive started swaying me more to a GS and I found a GS Luxury for a deal I could not refuse pretty close to me.

I few things to note though.

GS will be less expensive to own and maintain, likely much less then a LS.

GS much sportier, much better handler, more fun to drive then a non F sport LS.

LS does offer more rear seat room though I don't think the trunk or front seat room is really any better.

LS is slower then the GS, most 0-60 for LS is around 6 sec, slightly under in some cases, most 0-60 for 6 speed auto GS is around 5.7, lower in some cases, the 8 speed auto GS is slower and closer to the LS but still slightly quicker. The LS V8 is smoother and requires less effort to accelerate which may make it feel quicker but when I floored the LS460 it felt slower then my GS430 that has .3 less disp and 80hp less, weight is a factor too.

As far as luxury, it depends on how you equip them, a Luxury package GS has more features/luxury then a basic LS, Luxury GS has rear seat controls, semi aniline leather, seats have more adjustment, VRS, etc. A Luxury package GS is very rare but a LW/Luxury/rear seat control upgrade package for the LS is even rarer and very expensive.

LS is not sporty at all, even F sports aren't that sporty, GS is very sporty and much more fun to drive.

LS is going to be more comfortable then a GS, it is more softly sprung and the 8 cylinder offers more effortless smoother acceleration but after driving my GS more I was surprised how close it came to a LS in comfort and quality, much closer then I originally thought.

I would test drive them and research them before making a final decision.
