Default RPM in Park

New 2015 F Sport owner here. I notice that the engine RPM is at 1k when in park and goes down to 600-700k when moved from Park to Drive. This is without AC on. \
Is this normal? Most of my other cars actually rev lower in park with a small increase when moved from Park to Drive.

Was the engine warm? This is normal behavior when the engine is cold.

In winter, mine idles at 1400 in P and goes to 1000 in D. But it's been around -15C/5F here.

It's better to have lower idle in drive, otherwise the car would lurch forward once you let off the brake.

When it's cold out as in winter, it will idle higher when in Normal/Sport mode. If you want it to idle lower, put it in ECO mode until the engine is warmed up.

makes sense.. Looks like it's the winter weather. I am in the DFW / Plano area and it's been 40-50s lately.

thanks all!
