Default Replacing Network Gateway ECU (fix battery drain)

Has anyone attempted DIY replacing Network Gateway ECU in their GS?

If so can you share your experience? I want to replace it, but don't know where exactly it's located and how to gain access to it.

This link describes underlying issue in details https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...n-t-start.html

No, I really want to know how to fix this too! My battery dies randomly and I can't find any info online about it's location. The module itself is cheap, but finding where to replace it is tricky. I think some digging about led me to believe it's behind the radio? Not sure, If you get any info please let me know.

It's alot of trouble for parasitic drain. I just hook up my CTEK smart battery maintainer if my cars has been sitting a few days. I keep the pigtail end sticking out so I can hook it up to the charger without even opening the hood. It maximizes the life of the battery.

When I took apart my dash, here is some pictures that may help. It's REALLY easy to access the gateway. Basically take out 5 screws, remove glovebox, tada! The gateway is sitting right there. It's the thing that has the bright orange label on it. Hope this helps. Click the link below and scroll a few until you start seeing the glovebox pictures.

eddie420, thank you so much! I was able to replace my ECU and that nasty parasitic drain is gone! Turns out i had ECU even older than one mentioned in https://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb...dPdf?id=195332.

No unfortunately, didn't have time for that, but here is step-by-step instruction:
  1. Remove trim around stereo/head unit, see [ame]https://youtu.be/gly6cIJYD6Q?t=39[/ame]
  2. Remove knee level side trim piece [ame]https://youtu.be/gly6cIJYD6Q?t=467[/ame] (obviously do it on the passenger side though)
  3. Follow steps 22, 23 and 24 from attached pdf.
  4. You'll see network ECU bolted on plastic backing piece (hope eddie420 don't mind me stealing one of his photos)

    network ECU

For those that have done this fix, does the ECU require programming through Techstream or is it plug-n-play, ready to go?

I'm interested in the answer to this too.

Does it make sense to change this pre-emptively? Mine is a 2013 GS350 with 78k miles, and I have not had a problem. Worth changing anyway? Thanks.

Not worth changing. If your car doesn't have the problem now it probably will never have it. Likely just a bad batch of ecu's or design flaw they fixed long ago on another batch.

Is the new gateway plug and play, or does it need to programed? Thanks.

For those that are still wondering, the network gateway is plug and play - no programming required!
