Default 60K mile service

Coming up on 60,000 miles on my 2014 GS AWD. Curious what scheduled maintenance needs to be done. I’ve read a few different things ranging from spark plugs to brake fluid flush. Anybody have the dealer recommended maintenance schedule for 60,000 miles?

spark plug, brake fluid exchange, cabin filter, oil change, and engine air filter is the service manual recommendation for 60k

You're going to be told by forum members to ignore the maintenance schedules' directions for brake flushes and spark plugs. Compelling reasons will be given how unnecessary they are, and how you're wasting your money. Arguments between members will be volleyed and you'll be left confused who to believe and what to do!!!

During this process, please ask yourself a question...should I believe the well trained engineers working for the most reliable auto manufacturer in the world, or some guy on the internet?

Let that be your guide.

If you're not inclined to do the work yourself, I would highly suggest a well regarded local independent shop or a Toyota dealer for these services, simply to save $ over Lexus service. Get a quote either way

P.S. if you don't have your owners manual you can download it. Just google your year lexus gs250 owners manual and you'll find it.

There have been some expensive price quotes for 60k service from the dealership, but shop around. Look at the service recommendations below and see if a good independent shop is willing to give you a quote. A reputable Toyota dealership should be able to do the same services for cheaper as well:

Yup. Brake fluid, spark plugs, filters. Just had it done under CPO. Can run $900 at the dealer; so good luck.
Of course Putnam Lexus in Redwood City, CA detailed the car as well. Gave is a new ES300h loaner.
I am also gonna service the transmission and differential myself.

Just got the 60k service done over the weekend. It hurts your wallet. Not sure how pricy dealers are in NJ, but it cost me $1300. My wallet is crying right now. I should've shopped around, but I needed maintenance done as I'm going on a road trip this week.

Yep, got everything that is advertised. Engine oil, brake fluid, air filters, spark plugs... The parts were a little over $300. Labor was $1000. At least it's every 60k...

If you're going to do it all yourself the parts should be around $175 for cabin filter, oem air filter, oem oil filter, 7 qts Mobil1 oil, 6 oem Denso spark plugs & a bottle of brake fluid. All of this could be done yourself in 2-3 hours if you're familiar with the spark plug replacement.

I've never done the spark plug replacement on the GS but it is about ten times easier than on a V6 Camry and as far as I can tell it is pretty straight forward. Maybe someone who has done it can chime in. I would imagine that even if you're slow like me and are doing the plugs for the first time, all of this could be done on a Saturday with a lot of breaks in between working.

Whether or not the maintenance records on my 2013 GS350 were accurate or not prior to my purchase, the records state the the rear diff had a "fluid flush" at 30k & 60k. The list above says to inspect the rear diff fluid. Anyone had theirs replaced at 30k & 60k service before?

Now, whether the plugs even need replacing is debateable. As has been mentioned it is contentious and some will say they've gone well over 200k miles with original plugs. Also, for some reason Toyota recommends 120k mile first replacement on the V6 Camry. Why 60k on the GS? Maybe it's apples and oranges, maybe not. I don't know. Question I have is what if you don't change them? What's the worst thing that could happen? Fuel economy will gradually decline. Less power. Maybe you'll get an error code. In my opinion odds of a catostrophic failure that would strand you are quite slim so I'm not sure there is any great need to change them.

The other item that is not recommended by Lexus, is replacing the transmission fluid. With about 68k miles that mine has now I'm planning to drain, replace filter and fill in the near future. There are whole thread on this if it interests you but it is pretty much a DIY job that is very tedious and havng gone through the same thing with a Camry, the dealerships are not eager to help you out regarding their "lifetime" WS ATF and I don't imagine the Lexus dealerships are any better.

That's what I think. The rep said replacing the spark plugs will give me a bit more power and the gas mileage will be better. It's a recommended service. Dealer never said it was needed. I don't think it's necessary to replace the spark plugs at 60k unless your car is facing terrible gas mileage and the throttle response is shot. But they did it and I paid for it. I haven't driven it enough since Saturday to determine if there is "more power".

My local dealership said that the 60k service for my AWD 2013 GS would be $1,099...this seems really high to me as the most difficult/time consuming parts of the service would be the spark plug replacement... but at least its not too far off from what you paid.

These prices of around $1000 or over $1300 for the 60K service is just highway robbery, it is outrageous they have the nerve to charge prices like that. Stay away from the Lexus dealers if you won't DIY. I bet a Toyota dealership would even be pretty reasonable and not charge anywhere near half that, take it to a independent when you are out of warranty. This is clearly a money grab service. They are changing some fluids(not even transmission), filters, and spark plugs, nothing difficult, parts are pretty cheap. Parts/fluids should be less then $200, labor is a few hours at most. No real reason to change these spark plugs at 60K miles.
