Default Build date 7/2015 for a 2015?

While washing the GS this morning I noticed a build date of 7/2015.

I’ve owned quite a few cars over the years and have never seen a build date of a current year model so late in the model year. Usually car companies are ramping up for next MY production. Is this a Japanese car company thing?

Not really. I think American car companies started building the next model year earlier and earlier, to try to get a jump on the competition... marketing ploy. "You can get next year's model today!" I read that some years ago in either Motor Trend or Car & Driver.

My 2018 has a build date of 08/18... so you're all good.

And make sure you check Lexus Drivers for the sale date, so you will know when your warranty (in months) is up.

Warranty wise I’m good for 72 months/100k miles. I’m only at 15k miles so I’ll hit the years first.

The 2015 had a slight revision in October of 2015. Yours may possibly be one of those that had those changes implemented. Mine is a 2015 but production date is 12/2014.

It was believed that mid way in 9/2014 Lexus change the windshield washer reservoir to a large size that is found in the MY16.
Large reservoir makes it difficult for some to install JDM fog lights due to less clearance space.
Mine is a 2015 GS with a 11/14 build date, but mine did not have the larger reservoir. I had zero issues fitting in fog lights.
So who knows what revisions was really made.

The date for swapping over from one model year to the next varies from year to year. My 2015 had a build of 8/15. I believe the switch over from 15 to 15 happened in October 15 with first deliveries coming in late November and December 15. I bought my 15 in December 2015, and at that time, they had just received their first 2 16s on the lot.

My 2019 has a build date of 9/18.
