Tried pulling the plug and inserting the usb and it wouldn't load.
Also tried inserting after it was up and running and still wouldn't load the new firmware.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Is your USB drive formatted NTFS or some other format? Try formatting as FAT32.
Also make sure you are inserting USB into bottom port on Vline. Top port is for Apple CarPlay only.

So sorry for late reply. Feels good to finally have a buddy on this thread with the same year model as mine. I was a loner here. Funny thing, I ran into the same problem when I updated to the latest firmware. Lost my fullscreen and had the flickering going on too. GROM sent me at FAT32 file and I was able to restore everything via flash. I've noticed the same worked out for you.
Another side note, I literally poked a hole in the exact spot as you placed your USB. When I saw the picture, I did a double take thinking it was my car. Check it out...

My USB is formatted as FAT32 and in bottom usb slot. It just won't recognize the usb.
I've let GROM know...waiting for an answer.
Thanks to all who have helped.

My experience with GROM support, they'll work with you and try different avenues till the issue is resolved. It does require a lot of patience and when that anxiety kicks in, it becomes extremely frustrating lol but overall, I feel supported by them when an issue arises and am super psyched about the system

Here's a screenshot of the instructions they sent me that eventually worked out for me. One important part is to insert the flash when you see VLINE. NOT when you're already on the home screen. Try it out that way and see if it works.

Thanks I have tried inserting it at the vline screen, after unplugging the unit, and while it's up and running.
It's just not working.
I know the drive is ok as I already successfully did one firmware update.
No word from GROM either.
About to just return it, do appreciate all the help from you guys.

I did it from the home screen and it worked. Maybe give that one more shot.

Maybe reset the unit, then try to flash the firmware?

I am glad to have a full screen buddy as well.

That’s awesome. That is almost identical. It is a great spot for the USB plug!

Glad everyone is slowly resolving their issues. I've had my unit for a few months now and works >95% of the time. Loving it so far in my 3RX!

Apple revamped CarPlay in the new iOS13 looking forward to running on VLine!

Yes. You have to change it to gromvl1.hex

I did rename it. It just won’t work and they just keep sending the same 10 step instructions. I pulled it out and am returning it after a week of it not working. Maybe something else will work down the road. Thanks for all the help. Hope those who have it working enjoy it!

Quick view of the Grom VL2 running CarPlay in iOS 13. This is the dashboard view.

Looks so good! Any chance google maps will run similar to Apple maps in dashboard view?
