GROM VL2 installed

Bob is this a CarPlay issue only? I never have any echo problems with Android Auto.
People complaint about GROM, but what other tech companies out there releases fixes this fast?! I think their response time is awesome for a small outfit. Hell, Google and Apple can takes months to fix small bugs.

Hi All,
Just purchased a Grom VLine2 after reading through all of your posts on it. Thanks for all the helpful info as it definitely helped me finally pull the plug.
Question: I read through eddie420's guide on how to take a part the dash. For those who installed on their own, did you guys have to do the first step where he used Techstream to disable the Autoaway/Return function? Not sure if that is only needed for a full dash disassembly or not.
Thanks!

lol your not removing the dash to install this. You don't even need to disconnect the battery or think about techstream. Your removing the 12.3" display, radio/head unit, and the glove box. I've upgraded my head unit 3 times(2014,2015,2016) and have previous installed Beatsonic and now Carlinkit, all without disconnecting the car battery and zero issues.

Jeez! Don't look at that guide. Just watch the videos that Beatsonic makes, that's all you need to do, step-by-step. If you get during the install, call their phone number and the guys will help you while you do the install. They have good customer service.

Sounds good man. Thanks for the tip!

Got bored today and went for a short 20 min run. Blip the throttle couple times to clear her throat. Setup Ring Doorbell in my car to check for porch pirates while I'm away😄

hi everyone. Like jlai20 I also recently purchased the VL2 because of this sub. I want to thank everyone for your experiences, impressions, and great information. I install mime today on a 2018 RX 350 F-Sport. I thought I would relate my experience:
- The installation itself was fairly easy. I only had two hiccups. For some reason I could not get the connector from the push button start switch to disconnect - that took 20 minutes. Also, cutting a hole in my glove box was painful. I had to mentally prepare myself for that.
- Why does Grom give you 3 feet of cable when the distance from the radio to the glove box is about 1 foot? Between the power cable, the video cable, and the GPS antenna I have about 8 feet of cable in my glove box.
- I routed my GPS antenna straight out the back of my NAV screen. Very nice looking. I am happy with it.
- The setup was also fairly easy and straight forward. installed GApps and Play Store with no problem.
- CarPlay works well.
- Could not get VL2 to connect to my iPhone's hotspot. Need to investigate that.
- Was in CarPlay when I got a phone call. Answered by using the steering wheel buttons. Lexus took over the call and it sounded great. When I hung up it did not switch back to VL2. In fact I could not get it to switch back. I pressed the 'Media' button twice and could never get it to switch back. Weird.
- Need to spend a lot more time with it. I want to compare the VLine interface vs CarPlay. CarPlay seems much easier in that I just plug my phone in and I'm done. With VLine side I have to make sure I am connected to the internet and I need to figure out the whole HotSpot issue.
