GROM VL2 installed

Learned something even better: You can use Bluetooth to link the VL2 to you phones hotspot AND have wireless carplay working at the same time!. You have to connect the phone to wireless carplay first, then re-connect bluetooth from the VL2 to you phone, but make sure the options for media access is UNCLICKED and the option for internet access IS clicked. When you go to an app that will require internet access you phone will turn on the hotspot. I tested this with an iPhone 11 pro max. You will likely need to get a wifi antenna with a longer cable to move the VL2's antenna closer to your phone in the car's cabin, and you will need smoking fast LTE. Worked great with Amazon Prime Video.
EDIT: maybe I need that longer antenna? It disconnects

Hello All,
I'm in the process of installing VLINE2 on my 2016 GSF but I'm struggling to find a spot behind the glovebox to put the VLINE box. Anyone have suggestions & pictures? I see some folks put it inside the Glovebox and to me it's not to my liking. Any other suggestions?

OK, this is a little off the subject but I just have to give my two cents. I don’t see the big deal in adding grom or beat sonic to our cars. In reading this thread it seems that the audio through the auxiliary port is not as good as it is with the iPhone connected the USB. I primarily listen to music in the car, I don’t go around talking to people or trying to send messages through text, or using Google maps to drive around the city, because I know where the heck I’m going. If I actually want to call someone or need to text I just say hey Siri, say what I need to say, and it goes through my Bluetooth system to either call someone ot text someone hands free. I want to play my playlist on Spotify I either hit it when I get in the car or I asked Siri to play my playlist. It works. I like having my split screen with my fuel mileage on the left in the big zone and the audio in the little split screen on the right. I do have the GS hybrid so possibly I get a little more fun at watching the fuel mileage than people without the hybrid. Don’t get me wrong I think having the Apple CarPlay as an option would be nice but I’m not gonna go out and spend $700 and ripped my car apart and put all these wires in and so that I have inferior audio quality to have Google maps on my screen. My two cents, not picking on anyone.

"I would recommend putting it somewhere accessible, even better if its accessible while you're in the driver seat. I reset (unplug) my vline at least once a month because it gets locked up."
First off, glad I am not the only one who does not think upgrading our center tech screen is worth losing any audio quality. It seems even after installing one of these units, you better keep it accessible to reset or update it. Call me an old fogey, though I am only 55, but I just want to drive the car. Being able to stream music through the phone is wonderful. Anything beyond that to me is just sprinkles on the icing on the cake. I just care about the cake. Not knocking anyone however who do this, just my preference, and apparently some other folks. On the other hand, I have fog lights to install even though I have fog lights that I never use, so call me a hypocrite, it's all good folks.

Make sure you going into GROM system setting to turn up Media volume. From the factory, it is shipped with very low volume that will distort. After doing this, my GROM sound just as good as the factory system. I don't have "audiophile" ears like some of you, but in the car environment I'm not expecting perfection.

Good Evening. I have a question for you . I hope you can help me out. I'm looking to get VL2 . I see that most people have split screen after the installation. How did you manage to get yours full screen. I looked through the thread here and I could not find how people switch to full screen view. Thank you in advance for any information

I retrofitted a 2016 head unit/screen into my 2013 GSh and have full screen Apple Carplay with carlinkit. If I installed Grom it would also be full screen.

It's only full screen if you have a 2016+ GS radio/head unit. 2013-2015 GS head unit/screen is only capable of displaying split screen.

Very long thread on carlinkit, my trials, and finally success:

VL2 is android based and has more capabilities beyond just apple carplay.
