Default CPO 2016 GS W/ F Sport vs Used

Hi Club Lexus,

Ive been looking for the past 3 months for a CPO/used GS in ultra white with black interior and 1 finally showed up. However a couple of things about it are weird to me.
https://www.lexusofconcord.com/Vehic...-CA/3377544953 VIN: JTHBZ1BL7GA002505
https://www.lexusofconcord.com/Vehic...ource=cars.com. VIN: JTHBZ1BLXGA003471

The one I want is the $35k with 30k miles, but car fax doesn't show maintenance records compared to the other one with red interior. There is also a $3k difference between the two, but why is the one that isn't certified with more miles cost more?

Really appreciate any insight thanks all

price: the one that isn’t certified was on the lot for around 5 days where the certified one was on the lot for 2 weeks. Seems like not a big deal? But some dealers will drop the price every “x” number of days it’s on the lot until it sells. The dealership I purchased from dropped the one I got to right around auction price by the time I bought it around 6 weeks after they got it. They said they usually sell their used cars within 2-3 weeks max and space is at a huge premium so holding costs of the car simply taking up space is probably insane.

as for Carfax maintenance records, many dealerships have stopped using Carfax because of cost (compared to auto check). The car could have been maintained at a dealership that doesn’t report to Carfax. Alternatively, they could have maintained it at a mom & pop shop that doesn’t report or diy’d everything. Check the vin on drivers.lexus.com to see if it was just maintained at a dealership that chooses to not report to Carfax.

Could be reflecting time on lot. Could also be the vehicle that is higher priced is not CPO because they have extensive records of having serviced that vehicle themselves, so CPO makes no sense to them as they know the entire history of the vehicle, and have priced that in.

Maybe they believe the red interior is more attractive and will demand a higher price. Also go do a visual
inspection, there may be additional wear and tear on the exterior and/or interior, scuff marks and the like.

And they clearly took the time to include photos of one and not the other, so there’s likely some additional perceived value on one, color, condition or some other factor.

There are a couple of reasons the non CPO car could be more expensive with higher mileage: the non-CPO car is actually in better overall condition and has a better service history OR the dealer "paid" a little bit more for the car and is trying to re-coop the cost.

It is odd that there is such a price difference between the cars since the listed packages, colors etc don't differ by much and the cheaper car is shown with 2 new tires. The better value lies in the certified car for sure.

I would def. go for the CPO car but I would check them both (just to compare) to see if there is a visual reason (scratches, scuffs, interior wear/tear) for the price difference. Even so, don't accept anything that isn't up to your own personal expectations as dealers sometimes try to spend less on reconditioning to pocket more $$$.

There is not a huge mileage gap between the two. I purchased my Gs in SoCal and it was a pain in the a** to find a white with red interior used. They practically sold instantly. I originally wanted that color combo. My guess is, they priced it higher because it will probably be easier to sell.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate the lexus drivers tip. I was able to add the car and find out the following:

Originally sold to Lexus of Stevens Creek
5/10/15/25K/30K maintenance done at Stevens Creek
windows got tinted at 16k miles and 2 tires/ brake pads replaced at 23k miles; serviced at Stevens creek
Then a few more services and CPOed at Concord. (picture below)

Ill take a look at it this weekend. So far TrueCar gave $500 off the price haha

Thanks again everyone

I bought it!, the exterior of the car was in immaculate condition, there wasnt even any rash on the rims. However the inside has some scratches where the dome light controls are and the rear seats have some spots that do not come off. Maybe I can a different solution and try cleaning it again. The dealer did however give me a hard time on the price, it was listed online at 34990, then 34490 a few days later. When it was 34490, I went on truecar and got a certificate to bring it down to 34120. Then when i went to buy it this morning it was back to 34990. At first the manager said he cant honor that 34120 price, let alone the 34490 price, even after showing screenshots. After arguing saying we discussed 34.5 over the phone with the sales person he agreed to 34.5 .

All in all im happy with purchase and will try to do additional cleaning. Thanks everyone for the tips and support
