Upper lumbar support malfunctioning - 2013 GS350 Luxury Package
Hello, everyone. Noticed last week that the upper lumbar support is malfunctioning on the drivers seat. When you press the controls back and forth, you can hear a clicking, like a relay, but there is nothing moving within the seat. Has anyone had any problems with this before? The lower lumbar support works fine.

You're talking about the 18 way seats aren't you? I haven't had a problem but but I'm not sure which you mean. The rear-most controls on the seat are from top to bottom are: seatback upper angle, lumbar support and pelvic support. So are you referring to just the lumbar?

Well, I took the car to the dealer today. They said it's an $1,800 repair. The lumbar support motor needs to be replaced. I am going to start looking into other options. I am not sure how easy it is to take apart the seat but that's an option for me if it's possible.

4 screws and a couple hooks under the seat hold the back covers on.
This is what it looks like with the cover off.

Thanks that's helpful. Do you think it's possible to remove the back covers without taking the seat out of the car?

See attached pictures of the lower part of the back cover. There are two straps under the seat you have to unhook. Then lift the flap back you will see two screws on these white posts. Once you take the screws off, there are two clips you unhook.
Then pull down and it will come out.
For the upper cover there are just two screws on the bottom side, just take them out and pull down. You have to take the lower back cover off to get the upper one out.

My lumbar works...but it seems as though both buttons adjust the same area. I feel no difference.

Very subtle but lower button is for pelvic while middle is for lumbar. Best way to feel it is retract both then adjust the pelvic to fully extended, then extend the lumbar.
