Advice on car wraps
I have a 2013 gs & it is platinum silver. I’ve had the vehicle for a month & change & someone dinged the driver’s door within 2 weeks. Yea, I know it’s f’ed up... But it got me to thinking, especially since I drive on the highway a lot, about getting the car wrapped to protect the paint & body. Driving on the highway, you experience quite a few paint-chipped marks as well, & wrapping a vehicle protects the paint & last for at least 5 years (to 7). Any opinions??

Full car vinyl wrap is going to cost you $3K-$5K or even more. Full PPF is a little less expensive at least here in SoCal, but still quite an investment. Why not just use a good PDR guy to get your door ding repaired. That shouldn't cost more than $75-$100 per panel. If you don't want dings and chips, don't ever drive the car. IMO the GS isn't an exotic car worth doing full wrap. Just drive it and be happy. Dings and dents will happen, that's what PDR guys are for. If you get bunch of chips on your front bumper, just get it respray and then PPF just the front bumper. That's what I'm planning to do.

Thanks for the advice. However, wraps were not only made for exotic cars, if that were the case, Scions, 300’s, & other tuner/common vehicles wouldn’t get them. It’s an alternative to a paint job, nothing more. That’s kinda like saying rims were only made to be put on newer vehicles & not ol’ skools

Wraps != PPF. Wraps won't protect your car, they'll change your cosmetic appearance. PPF will protect your car from most flung highway debris and is translucent and unnoticeable when applied correctly.

I didn't say you can't vinyl wrap your car.. It's your car and your money.. do whatever you want. I merely stated my opinion as a used 6 years old GS is not worth it to me to wrap. If it was brand new just driven off the dealer's lot, then it might be worth getting full car PPF. And as Eddie have stated vinyl wrap does nothing to protect from rock chip.

If you wrap your car, make sure you go to a paintless dent repair place prior to the wrap and get the dent removed. The wrap will only highlight the dent.
Also, PPF(Paint Protection Film) will save your front end 99% of the time from rock chips. The critical areas are the front bumper and the lower part of the hood. I'm getting my front bumper, full hood, full front fenders, headlights, and side mirrors wrapped in Suntek PPF for $1400 on April 2nd. A good installer will wrap around the edges and make it look nearly invisible. PPF is much thicker than regular vehicle wrap and will offer more protect again most rock chips.
