Rear view mirror fell off
Hadn't had the car 4 full days and the rear view mirror came off the windshield and actually took a piece of the windshield with it. I didn't get any warranty with this car. Anyone know of a fix? Gorilla glue maybe? Here's the pic. That piece on the windshield is actually indented from where some of the glass came off. It seems like it was glued on in the first place. I think the dealership that sold it to me or the previous owner knew about it because the plastic piece to access the wiring was partially opened.

Is this the original windshield?

I don't know if it's original or not. I just got the car. Should I make a claim and get a new windshield. We don't have to pay the deductible to get a new windshield in SC. Or should I just try to glue it back on with the windshield glue kit?

If piece of the glass came off, it will only get worse as it heats up and cools down. You need a new windshield.

If the windshield was replaced it likely won't have a Lexus logo on it. I'm pretty sure the logo is on the lower drivers side. If you see another glass company's logo on it, it might be worth reaching out to see if there is any type of lifetime warranty on the install. If they ask for a sales slip let them know it was replaced and ask if they can look it up by VIN.

take it back to the dealer. It shouldn't be a huge expense for them to fix it. Although, it depends on how good the dealer is. Usually, the cost of replacing an aftermarket windshield is $300-$400 at retail, which includes relocating the mirror. The mirror should be much lower .. specially at wholesale rates they pay.

A Lexus GS with rain sense wiper sensor is not going to be a $300-$400 windshield, closer to a $1000.

It's not very typical.

I hope you got a windshield that permits your car's options to work correctly, e.g. rain sensing wipers, etc. Was the replacement an OE Lexus logo windshield, or an aftermarket windshield?

Do you all really think Lexus actually makes windshields? A glass company makes the windshield and puts a Lexus logo on it. Mine doesn't have the Lexus logo, but it did come from our local Lexus dealer. I was standing there when she called the dealership. It's a Pinkleton glass. It came with the hookups for the mirror and the sensors already on the windshield. And whether it is $300 or $1200, it was free for me.
