Engine Coolant
#18
Hi Guys, thread OP here. So I did the coolant change over the weekend. Went to a local Toyota and got 2 gallons of EMO coolant for a total of $40 plus tax. All I did was drained the radiator and siphoned out the overflow reservoir. I used an empty 1 gallon milk jug and got exactly 1 gallon or 4 quarts out. I didn’t drain the engine blocks, too much work. I plan to do another drain and fill in about 35k to 40k. Love this baby and keeping it until the wheels fall off. I square if I ever get her to 500k, all I will ever buy is Toyota/Lexus . Thank you all for the input.

Yep, am at 100K. I saw the tables the other guys posted. With 40% new coolant, it should last a while, about 30k to 40k, before I need to change again. This is how dealers service your vehicles as well. The don't drain out 100% of the fluids, whether it is transmission, axles, etc. That is why per our manual the service interval is shorter after after any fluid change compared to when new. Thanks.

I'm not saying only draining the radiator will lead to problems or is insufficient. I don't really know and you might only know if you had the old coolant analyzed but for me, i think I'll do more and what I might actually do is, depending on the difficulty of draining the block just drain the radiator at every oil change after I reach 100k miles.

Where is the bleeder on the 2GF-Fe? Is it on the passenger side of the engine between the banks? There's something that looks like a bleeder valve there but I wasn't sure.
