Supposedly in 2020 the Lexus IS will have a BMW engine as far as how true that is I'm not entirely sure. If this true do you guys feel that this is a good idea by Lexus? Also do you feel that the GS will continue on with a redesign and perhaps get a similar engine? I'm pretty interested to see where Lexus goes with this.

The last thing I'd want is BMW in my Lexus! It will be interesting to see long term reliability in the new Supra.

We knew they already partnered with BMW for the Supra engine but its unclear where the partnership begins/ends. I'm sure Toyota/Lexus tunes and tests the engines to their liking before they put it all together and brand it in their own cars.

Its also unclear where this gentleman gets his info and the reliability of his sources as it still doesn't give us any idea if a 5GS will be a reality. It makes sense that they continue with the IS for 2020 as they would continue to have a car in each category: RC coupe; IS small sedan; ES midsized sedan; ?? GS midsized sedan ?? and LS large sedan.

Personally hoping to see a new GS look like the LF-FC concept: https://www.lexus.com/concept/LFFC/#/12

pretty sure lf-fc stands for lexus flagship-future concept, in other words the LS. I'm ok if they kill it as long as they bring it back in like 10 years cause I just got one and I'd rather it last than shell out for a new one again soon lol

During the development of the Supra, Toyota worked with BMW to improve engine reliability. Toyota performed failure analysis on engines that were life tested and fed their finding to BMW for correction.

That is very surprising BMW would allow or want a main competitor to also use their engines in their vehicles. I can see with a single low volume sports car like a Supra but a IS is crazy when it directly competes against the 3 series. Unless Toyota is paying BMW a lot of money to use their engines but Toyota already has a new turbo charged 6 cylinder in the LS that could be used in various state of tune in other Lexus models. This rumor sounds kind of suspect.

I would also assume toyota would prefer to use their new generation of dynamic force engines instead of pay BMW out the butt. there hasn't been a v6 dynamic force engine yet so still waiting...

Ditto! Too many of these "fortune tellers" out there.

True - didn't even realize the acronym at play! But if this is the design direction, it looks great to me - 4 door sedan with a coupe-like profile and an ultra modern interior..even though this might be LS territory, it feels really fitting for a 5GS with these underpinnings to set the stage for the lineup of the future.

I agree with both of you here but i was thinking it may be a possibility as Toyota has already done something like this in the past. Who knows we will have to see what the future holds for the Lexus lineup.

I wonder when we'll know officially what Lexus is doing with the GS.
