Default Gauge cluster change to Digital

Has anyone ever attempted a Gauge Cluster change from 13-15 to the digital gauge on 16+? Is this even possible? I really liked the 16+ digital gauge and I wanted to look into it for my 15.

I've tried searching just about everywhere but no luck.

Not possible without a complete rewire and new ECUs from what I've read on the forum at some point...don't think anyone has tackled it.

If your vehicle happened to miss out on a HUD from the factory, have one installed. It's been done here before. There isn't a need to look at the dash with the HUD dialed into the right height.

Not sure if I understand what you mean. What's a HUD and how do I check to see if it's missing?

Sorry, a Heads Up Display. Like in a fighter jet. To see whether your car is fitted with one, look for a big hole in the dash behind the steering wheel. It just displays simple information so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I really don't care for the analog cluster in my GS (a speedo without 100KM/H at the top is poor design IMO) but the HUD makes it a non issue.

NICE! So if I don't have one, and go to Lexus and complain, will they get this installed? My 2011 X5M (sold now) had this and i absolutely loved it.

Update: It looks like this is an optional feature on luxury trims. So with F-Sport, i doubt it would be free to request one to get installed... I'll ask next time I'm at the dealership!

Doesn't work like that. You can complain, and they'll be glad to install it for you for some 4 digit sum of money. It was an optional feature. You can buy all the parts for a few hundred bux and DIY or pay an independent shop to do it. A member here has written a pretty extensive post of when he added this feature to his 2015 GS that did not have it.

No chance you get it installed at no charge tho.

As np20412 said, it must have been an optional extra in your market (interestingly they were standard equipment in all Fsport here). I can't imagine what Lexus would charge, worth getting a quote though....they may even refuse. I read about folks here spending all sorts of money on cosmetic and minor performance upgrades....having someone install the HUD has got to be the first thing you do!

There are some decent aftermarket HUDs out there. I’d go with one of those before trying to install a Lexus one.

The hardest part of installing HUD is cutting the dash, while still in the car. I think swapping the top part of the dash with precut piece is much harder. I had a member make me a template for HUD opening, then start by cutting the top synthetic leather off. Then you take the instrument cluster out, getting a dremel and a flexible extension and going to work.

IMO too much work for something you probably don't need that much.

Depends on what you're used to. This is the first modern car I've owned that doesn't have a digital speedo in the cluster - very odd. If it didn't have the HUD I wouldn't have bought it. It's funny how certain things become deal breakers when shopping.

I use Waze with the speedo on. It shows the current speed limit and my current speed.

You also need new wind shield, if you want the HUD to look crisp. Otherwise you will have a double image.
