Default Tires, Short life, RIP

My Michelin MXM4's with 55k warranty are down to 2/32 after only 22,000 miles. Any tips or tricks when dealing with Discount Tire on this? I seem to remember that it's prorated and it's basically a small discount on a new set of full price tires, and that they actually talk you into a full new set at a sales price of a different model so you're still out 100's. I'm kinda frustrated that I spent $1000 less than 2 years ago for tires that didn't last all that long.

Any tips in dealing with Discount Tire appreciated.

What have you been doing, burnouts? Did you rotate it once? I'm around 23k on my Perelli c7 all season plus and plenty of life left.

Even wear or just the outside? Reach in to check the other side. I'm assuming 2/32 means there isn't much left.

It's even in all 4 tires which have been rotated about every 5-6k. And yeah, pretty much bald all the way across each tire.

I'm going to assume you're in an AWD GS(or something is really wrong). I never got more than 45000kms from the rears on my old Commodore. If you're a driver that accelerates quicker than general traffic then those miles aren't inconsistent with my experience.

Aggressive driving, hard stops, hard cornering, bad roads, unbalanced tires, bad suspension... a few things that can cause tires to wear quicker than normal. With that said, you have used 40% of your tire warranty, so you should receive a 60% discount on your next set of tires. I wouldn't call that a small discount. So as long as you've rotated and balanced regularly, you should be okay with Discount Tires.

Hi, pseconds-

First and foremost, thank you for choosing Discount Tire!

It sounds like the tires were properly maintained and are wearing evenly so as Chinee noted, you've used 40% of the expected tread life which means you'll receive a 60% credit towards the replacement set of tires

Holy crap. When I traded in my 15 GS it had those tires. It had 22k miles on it and still had a little over half the treadwear left.

Yeah, something seems wrong if you aren't driving super aggressively. I bought the same tires and they lasted 2.5 years and 40,200 miles. I maybe could have driven them another thousand or two if I really wanted to. This is on an AWD non-F-sport with 18 inch wheels.

UPDATE: Went to Discount Tire this morning, they agreed they are pretty evenly worn, and made good on the warranty. I felt my out of pocket cost was very reasonable and fair. And... my wife reminded me that I'm a lead-foot, so that could be a contributing factor. I don't think I am, but the tires and spousal eye-rolls don't lie I guess.

Glad they took care of you.... but 22K on a set of MXM4s? Even I got more than that, and mine still had lots of life left at like 35K+ or whatever it was when I put the sidewall bulge in one of them. Then again, I also rode them hard, too, usually like 38/39 psi cold....
