Unfortunately that is how it works on the GS. Even with aftermarket systems. I don't think anyone has found a way to bypass it yet. The car will always shut off when the driver door is opened and you have to restart the car. Not a huge deal if you can spare the 5 seconds it takes to restart the car and are ok with a the extra ignition cycle whenever you want to use the remote start.

It will help before making a financial or labor intensive mistake. All the best.

I keep hearing the pointless line and I still don't get it. Yes it sucks you have to restart your car but remote starting your car allows you to heat/cool down your ride before you get into it. Yes you have to restart it but your car is now heated or cooled. Thus it is not pointless. #FirstWorldProblems

Most cars with remote start require another step anyway. For example, in Nissan, you remote start, then unlock and get in. The engine keeps running, but you then have to put your foot on the brake and push the start button again before you can take it out of Park. So you do the same steps with Lexus (and Toyota), but the engine was off for a few seconds.

I agree. I think it's pointless and silly to have the car shut off when you open the door, but you'll have it back up and running again in what, 30 seconds? You won't lose what you just gained by starting it several minutes prior.

Interested to see how these are rated after a few installs. I just got the renew for my Lexus Enform that will expire next month (I did get 2 years initially on a '17 GS).
I WILL NOT renew this buggy system. Half the time the remote start won't work and the start time is ridiculous when it does work. Looking for a good aftermarket option and hope this is it.

One is with no T-harness and the other have the T-harness. I purchased the one with the harness for 13' F-sport, works great. The engine shutoff is normal toyota/lexus security thing. I like honda/acura remote start better. Same as JDR76 explained.
