Peace
I was recently told that I need brakes and pads. It confused me cause I'm used of mechanics saying brakes but meaning the pad in particular.

This guy said I need a whole new brake and pads. Also, my co worker showed me how the lack of brakes is creating a "lip" on the rotor.

So I'm wondering which brand is good if I need both?

Lexus quoted me $425 for rear and same for front.

Idk if that msg was for me but if it is, I get the brake pads part but he also said "you need brakes and pads". Like separately.

The rotors was something someone else pointed out yesterday

just installed stoptech pads and rotors last night on my awd. did the bed in process which was pretty simple and no complaints. then again ive been using their stuff for a while. Also had good experience with Akebono, my last car g37s had akebono stock bbk and never had any issues at all.

lol i would find another shop. brakes and pads is the same thing. maybe he meant to say pads and rotors. If the rotors already have a lip wear i would change that too because it will only wear the new pads faster, call it a peace of mind, which i prefer.

Dealer charging $425 for pads sounds about right.

Let us know if we can get you the Stoptech / Centric brand for a better cost.

I just went back over there. He clarified he meant the rotors/pads

AutoZone didn't have anything but duralast but didn't have gold pads

No just a daily driver less then 30 miles a day. I use to own a Evo and only had 3 brake pad changes and 1 rotors in 125k. Just thought it was off but I guess it's a price to pay for the Lexus F-sport... On a side note did anyone buy the extra maintenance or warranty on there lexus? The financial guy kept on trying to get me to bite....

The consensus here is that an extended warranty is wasted money on this car. Reliability is top notch. Also warranties will not cover wear items like pads and rotors.

The dealer always ways wants you to buy because their markup on add-ons are typically extremely high, 100% and higher, much higher. And the F & I guy makes $$$ from commissions.

Why not source genuine pads and discs yourself online and take them to your local mechanic to be swapped? I did so (but installed myself) and am very happy, just like new!
