Is a power trunk a deal breaker for folks these days?
I’ve found a Nebula Gray on black 2016 F sport with ML, heated steering wheel, safety system, illuminated sills...but no power trunk. Currently at 38k miles and the dealer is asking $33,900. I think I can definitely talk them down, but I’m trying to decide if I wait for one with trunk, or jump on a good deal with the right color combo and other features.
I did not have the power trunk on my 2015, but do on my 2019.
While I had my 15, I frequently wished I had the power trunk. The reason was silly, but it was that I felt like I have this nice, luxury car and I still have to slam the trunk. I'd park next to a Mercedes E350 and watch them push the button and watch the trunk gently close. Jealousy.
So when I got my 19, I made sure to have the power trunk. Now that I've had it for a few months, how do I feel? Meh. Frankly, I think it raises too slowly. So I either have to dig my key out of my pocket as I'm walking up to it so I can start the process before I get there, or I walk up to the trunk and do a double-press on the trunk mounted button and open it myself, without the assist. I do enjoy the closing feature, I'll admit that, but honestly, it serves very little, if any, purpose.
So that was my long way of saying it's not worth passing up the otherwise right car to wait for one with a power trunk. At least in my opinion.
That wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. My priority would be in this kinda order:
1) Price/Budget
2) Mileage
3) Condition/Carfax
4) Exterior Color
5) Interior Color
6) Additional nice to have options/packages (e.g. illuminated sills, pwr trunk, cargo mats, tint)
I know some folks have felt that power folding mirrors and power trunk were deal breakers esp since they were standard on the 3GS. Its really a personal preference when it comes to the 4GS.
I personally couldn't care less about a power trunk. I have the power trunk feature on another vehicle and it's about as important to me as having the Eco drive mode, which is worth absolutely zero to me.

Same here with mine, I could live with or without it. If mine didn't have it it would not have kept me from buying the car. Now triple beams that's another story! I hate you guys with them!

LOL....yeah, the triple beams are a case where I didn't search them out, but got lucky. I told the salesman they were a "nice to have" and not a "must have" feature, but luckily all of their GS350s on the lot had them. Unlike the power trunk, the triple beams were worth every penny and then some!
If they weren't so expensive to convert I'd have them in a heartbeat. Wish I knew why Lexus didn't make them prevalent on the RWD's. I was just pulling your chain.
What! You mean after you hit the Trunk Open button on the dash you can't use your pinkie finger to lift the trunk lid? Ah shucks! And, you can't use your fingertip to close the trunk lid? Damn! Do you need that scrawny high school bag boy to lift those heavy bags of Cheetos and yogurt cups into your trunk for you? What a bunch of wussies!
I wouldn’t let a missing power trunk lid prevent me from getting a car that checks all the other boxes on my list. Yes the feature is nice, but far from a deal breaker. It’s not like it’s a luxury crossover where you expect it to have that feature. But if you feel like you have to have it. I would keep looking. There are a ton of really nice 4GS’s coming off lease as we speak.
Not a deal breaker, but I still really, really, REALLY wanted the power trunk. It's a feature I first saw many moons ago and always coveted, but never had a car with it until getting my GS last year. I agree, it's not a really important feature, not a must-have, but it's nice to have. I do use it a few times a week.

Agreed. I wish the motor wouldn't push back if we try and assist it. I really only car for the soft touch close which I wish they would have added to the doors at the refresh =(
