Default Transmission question

I posted here before about a lexus specialist putting my car in reverse and drive while moving and having my whole car shake, I was told it wouldn't have caused damage but unfortunately I cannot show exactly what happened that day.

The 1st to 2nd upshift from around 5mph usually comes with a slight jerk but for the most part the car upshifts smoothly. The problem is when I'm coming to a stop as I get down to 5mph the car holds at about 1300 rpm and can never downshift into 1st gear without a jerk, sometimes it is a slight jerk and other times its noticeable. This happens coming to a stop slowly or just at a normal pace for everyday driving.

I'm done now with patience and haven't gotten to enjoy my car the entire time I've owned it. Can anyone tell me if a transmission fluid and filter change might help with this problem? At 32000 miles I don't need it but if this can help I'm willing to try it

Brought it two lexus dealers but since the car can drive they don't take it seriously. I'm serious enough to go out and buy a gopro mount it on a headband just to record me driving to show whats going on on the tachometer as I drive

I suggest you do just that, there's nothing anyone here can do.

Gs21 - I remember you!

In January, 2017 you took your car in to be checked because you were concerned about your car having a slight jerk when downshifting into 1st gear when coming to a stop. Then, in November, 2018 you took your car in to be checked again because it was hard for you to get the shifter out of Park without using a bit of force on the shifter. I see now that after 2½ years since the Lexus technician ran a common quick test on your transmission that you still cannot get over thinking what the technician did that day didn't somehow damage your transmission.

You say now that you are done with patience and you say that you haven't gotten to enjoy your car the entire time you've owned it. Now you are posting yet another thread about your car's transmission [still] exhibiting a slight or noticeable jerk when it comes to a stop ... but now you are also declaring it sometimes has a slight jerk when upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear.

You asked in this most recent thread: "Can anyone tell me if a transmission fluid and filter change might help with this problem?" My answer is: Replacing your transmission's fluid and filter will not make any difference...

Fluid and filter change won't fix that. If it is hurt, new fluid and filter will probably make it worse. Transmissions are not self healing.

I've yet to see an automatic transmission that will be harmed by moving to drive while still moving in reverse or vice versa unless you are above 5 MPH. If it is too much strain it will kill the engine or slide the tires, maybe both in quick succession.

Personally, I don't want a butter smooth shifting transmission. That means the gears are being slipped from one to another and producing more heat and wear. I prefer to know when my car shifts and it doesn't bother me. My wife's Honda CVT unnerves me. I hate it.

Have you tried shifting while in manual mode and see if you can simulate it or rule it out?

Well I’m angry that this happened and theres nothing I can do about it but if a video or changing the fluid won’t help then I’m ****ed until I get a new car which won’t be for a while

I have tried it in manual mode and my transmission does shift alot more rough than the other cars I tested out with the lexus foreman and he nor the other dealership thinks this is serious enough to fix, although lexus would be paying for it they don’t seem to care much as long as the car drives

Then if it is under warranty and it will be fixed if it fails, the best option is to delete this thread and experience a failure.

I doubt it will ever get to that point, are there any transmission shops associated with this forum around nyc?

Very true. Fluid won't help. If it is that bad I would recommend a new transmission. You can probably get one for only about $5,000.

Good luck
