Default Horrible gas mileage 2013 GS 350 AWD

Hello boys and girls
I bought a 2013 GS 350 AWD with 70k
My gas mileage is 12-13 mpg average
I don't think this is normal , I drive in S only like 5%
I changed spark plugs , air filter , tire pressure is on point
There are no fault codes in the ECU
What am I missing?

Thank you
Mike

Stop and go traffic like here in LA kills the MPG but it shouldn't be that bad. 12-13 is bad, I'm averaging 16-19 MPG.

Check if your rear calipers are seized
Check the throttle body

Buy a Prius or invest in Exxon Mobil stock. Some cars do just suck on gas mileage and below the expected EPA rating, where other ones of the same make/model will be above the EPA rating. That is why there is a range of gas mileage on the sticker, though it is in smaller print. You may happen to have a car that just is below due to whatever reasons there are. The engine tolerances could be off a hair causing you to use more fuel per cc of air. Or like other people said, something is rubbing, but your air fuel ratio has to be off.

While something may indeed be wrong, that doesn't have to be the case, at least in my experience. Tough to know without riding along to see how you drive and in what conditions.

On my GS (also AWD), I average about 16.5 mpg in what I would call "mostly suburban" driving. Definitely not "city" driving, which I consider downtown stuff with a traffic light each block and lots of idling. In those conditions, I can easily drop down to 10-14 mpg. My suburban driving involves some stop lights, some stop and go traffic, but still hitting speeds of 35-50 mph in places.

Fill it up (or reset the meter) and hit the open freeway and see what you get. I can easily hit the upper 20s in those conditions. I would be curious as to what mileage you get when you do that.

I am not worried about mpg I am just trying to find out if its normal or is it something wrong with may car in particular because Lexus says it must do 19 in city.... so I am way off
I have a Honda that exceeds the factory mpg and I thought its weird that Lexus is way off

On the highway I did 23mpg driving 65-70 mph

Just to be clear, as I think it's often misunderstood, Lexus does not claim that "it must do 19 in the city". What Lexus does, is report the results of the EPA defined test. When they did the EPA defined test for the city cycle, they got 19 mpg. The EPA's city cycle test is not very representative of real driving and driving conditions.

Interesting. I don't really pay attention much for city driving since I know it will stink and I'll probably get around 16-18mpg but I've been able to get 28-30mpg on highway driving smart and using the ECO mode. I would ensure you reset the average consumption monitor next time you fill up and monitor it. Do a reset for city driving and another one for highway trips and report back with the findings.

Did you recently buy it? It could be old gas in the tank. Often used cars can sit on lots or not be driven in months, who knows if they even put premium in it, the gas can go bad. I would get a good fuel injector cleaner like Redline, put that in a new tank of fresh gas and see if that helps. I get around 17-18 mpg on back roads and stop and go, on long highway vacation trips I can get around 27-31mpg and that is with a car with luggage.

Exactly, and *when* they did that test they probably had doors taped shut for less wind resistance, had all climate functions off, etc etc....

That said, it does seem a bit low, but like it's been said, all depends on how you drive and such. I get 26(ish) for highway, so that sounds pretty standard.
