Default Wipers Stuttering

I had my wipers replaced at a Toyota dealer. I would think since it is Toyota it is as good as factory. The bottom of the driver side stutters or shakes when in use. I questioned the service rep about this and he says there is nothing wrong , its normal. Is it normal? I am trying to upload a video but it is only noticeable a little in the video.

Stuttering wipers is not normal, get them to replace their replacements. And if it still stutters, use some Rain-X on the glass. Or forget the dealer and just use Rain-X.

BTW, replacing wipers is such a basic maintenance item that ... (stopped before I entered the judgement zone...)

Are you saying that the wipers are exactly the same for a Toyota vehicle as they are for a Lexus GS 350? Who told you this? Which Toyota vehicle's wipers are the same as the Lexus GS 350? When you went to the Toyota dealership and asked for new wipers for your Lexus how did they determine which wiper would fit your Lexus? Is there a chart with cross reference part numbers for Toyota and Lexus?

Wipers for your Lexus GS 350 should wipe the windshield perfectly and glide over the glass smoothly like melted butter.

I guess I trusted the Toyota dealer that they would put on the right wiper and have access to the right part.

When you replace the wipers at the dealer, they usually replace the whole blade, right ? Can someone post link to right part?

Check your invoice and see the parts number they used. 85214-33180 and 85214-52110 should be the numbers if they just did the rubber https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/oem-le...del=&Filter=()

could also be
85214-02340 or
85214-06100

The rubber inserts are the same between Toyota and Lexus. I got the replacement inserts from a Toyota dealer and replaced them myself on my old GS and they worked just fine (they have the same part numbers, just cheaper). I think the Corolla is using the same inserts as the GS. No need to buy the whole wiper assembly as they are much more expensive.

The stutter can be caused by friction on the glass or dry (old) rubber inserts. Try cleaning the glass with a glass cleaner and the wiper rubber with rubbing alcohol and see if it glides smoothly.

Yeah - they did the whole blade - they used a Toyota part - 85222-YZZ18-TM . I still have the original Lexus blades fortunately and they are nothing alike. I am thinking I suck up the cost and either go to the Lexus dealer or do it myself

Use Rain-X or Aquapel or another cleaner. Really and truly, wipers are wipers, the brand really does not matter, only the length of the blade ( for the most part).

What do you use Rain-X on , the windshield or the liner ? These are new. I think its not tightly fitting in the hook

I kinda figured that the Toyota dealership gave you the entire wiper blade sets (rubber blade insert and wiper blade holder). Since you still have the original Lexus wiper sets (that were removed) I would recommend reinstalling them and getting correct [new] rubber blade inserts. Maybe you can get your money back from the Toyota dealership since they gave you the incorrect part(s) for your car...

You have the incorrect wiper blades and wiper blade holders for your vehicle.

Yep, looks like you have the older type of wipers (on the right below). The original on the left is almost like a beam-style, very slim and streamlined. Although most wipers and holders are universal, there is a small chance this may be contributing to the chatter.

Rain-X is is a water repellent. There are others, but I like Rain-X and I've using it since 1996... I even walk with a bottle when I rent cars. Not only does it repel water, it's like wax for your glass, providing a super smooth surface for the wipers to move across.
