Default Valve Cover Gasket replacement

Oil leaving out of the valve cover gasket. Anyone done a Valve Cover Gasket replacement? Trying to figure out the part number and if I only need the gasket itself or some type of “kit” with multiple gaskets

I would give the Lexus parts guy your VIN number and have him give you what is needed, which will likely be a kit that includes the spark plug tube seals. An experienced parts counter guy at the dealership should know what the technicians require when valve cover gaskets need replacing. That might include a new intake manifold gasket and/or fuel pressure regulator gasket, or it may not if those gaskets are to be reused. That said, I would only use Toyota OE parts...definitely not aftermarket. You'll want to learn what Toyota recommends using for [any possible] adhesive to hold the gasket in-place when jockeying the head covers back in place so the gasket is properly seated and not out-of-place or pinched. Also, you'll want the torque requirements for all the bolts, and even the bolt tightening patterns. You'll also want to make sure you have all the proper tools (e.g. ratchet swivels, allen head sockets, long needle nose pliers, etc.) you'll need to access those pesky, partially hidden bolts here-and-there...

Oftentimes there can be specialized areas that receive special attention when replacing such gaskets that shouldn't be overlooked...even though one would think they should be simple to replace. You may have to remove some parts that you haven't considered, like the high-pressure fuel pressure regulator that would require it to be depressurized and then the fuel system primed when it is re-installed. Also, the spark plug tube seals can be delicate to pry out with the thin metal hold-down tabs and the new seals can be tricky to install correctly as the thin metal tabs can be easily broken if you're not careful.

I think I've seen where the parts should be ~$75 to $100 and labor (at Lexus) for 4-5 hours at $100 to $150 per hour could run $400 to $600+. I don't know how much you might save by having an independent shop that services Lexus vehicles do it for you.

If you plan to do it yourself there's bound to be a video of someone that has replaced the valve cover gasket on their 2GR-FSE engine, which should be helpful if you could find it.

It sure isn't like doing gaskets from cars years ago. Of course engines are sealed much better compared to cars in the past.

Correct. Replacing valve cover gaskets on a Chevy 'muscle car' V-8 engine from years ago might take 30 minutes, with 15 minutes of that time used to scrape the cork gasket material off the head and valve cover.

Where there's a will...there's a way!

And those solid lifters and the tubular headers would sound a whole lot better than the noise the GS's fuel injectors make.

Haha, I actually drive the Lexus like a ***** since it’s my daily... I have a Viper that I beat the **** out of 😂

it actually drips down and has eaten away my driver side motor mount so my car randomly vibrates when sitting still. Gotta swap that out too. Ugh
