I was at the dealership getting some basic services and I was advised to change my rears (immediate attention) due to the thread being down to 3mm. They basically wanted $800 for the two Bridgestone tires plus the $150 balance. I looked at the tires, I think that I can probably get another 3 to 5K miles out of them but then again the inevitable is to really replace now or in 3 or 4 months. I did some research, I came up with these two brands which will cost me about the same for 4 tires than what the dealer wants for those two. They are both priced about the same. I do not have any experience with either one and I was hoping someone here can tell me if they have had a good experience with either set... The Yokohamas would be the same size as the original staggered Bridgestones and the Goodyears would be 1 size up. Thoughts?

I'm currently on my second set of Yokohama Advan A/S i got fro, Tire Rack. Staggered 245/40/19 and 275/35/19. I got about 30K on the first set, i could have probably gone another 10K on before I got my new wheels. The Yokohamas sidewalls are a little softer than the original Bridgestone RE050. I wanted a long lasting tire with all season capability and decent performance. I drive about about 15K a year and have gone though several rainstorms without any issues. I've also driven with the Yokohamas to Lake Tahoe during the winter and never did use my snow chains. These tires were really quiet until I got down to about 4mm in tread depth, it started to make some noise. But this is pretty Much true for any tire. I find these tires a better bargain than Continentals, Michelin, or Pirellis.

The Yokohamas are more quieter than the original Bridgestone tires that came with the are. It originally came with Bridgestone RE050 summer tires and the sidewalls were super stiff and resulting in a sporty ride albeit more noisier also. Bridgestones even when new sounded like tires with worn out tread. Not to mention the Bridgestone wore out in about a years time, about 12K miles of driving. The Yokohamas have softer sidewalls and are way quieter than the Bridgestones, I would say about 75% quieter than the Bridgestones.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I have the RE050 and they are close to $300 to $350 per tire. Thank you so much for your feedback. I wonder how the Goodyears are for those who have used them as replacements

I was in the same boat as you minsky, and decided to go with RE050 again for the rears because they price matched costco. Next time Ill try Yokohama, pirellis p7, or michelin AS3+S
