Default Lexus fuel additive

I took my GS in for the 60k service and asked them what is all done. Long story short I had them complete the service and leave two things for me to handle : the cabin air filter since I have a GROM VL2 and the fuel additive. Turn out they add this to the tank every service;

They said this helps clean the injectors as well as the counter top and bottom and the valves. They also stated that Chevron gas is recommended for Toyota/ Lexus cars as the have a relationship and cater their gas to their vehicles. My advisor said that the Techron additive you can buy separately is the best one for the GS asit was designed with the assistance of Toyota.

Ok that MAY be true but why is it used on the 60k service for FREE? My car is still under warranty, I wasn't sold anything.

I'm trying to say that i think Lexus either knows the 2GR has a mild carbon problem or they are just playing it extremely safe.

The product has zero to do with Lexus or Toyota. There is no need whatsoever for such a product, especially if you use a Tier 1 gasoline.

There is no carbon problem with the engine in the GS 350.

If you paid for anything that was done at the 60k mile service - you can bet your *** you paid for the fuel additive. It was not provided [for FREE] at no charge!

I would say the dealer uses it to show the customer they are getting something that was unexpected.

OK, fair enough. Those are reasonable answers, knowing dealers.

I have heard these products are total garbage and if you are using decent gas provider( Exxon, Shell, Chevron etc.) you don't need a fuel additive. Honestly there is little proof they do anything they claim to do.

They use it because its a service they offer. I don't know what Lexus calls it but my when I take my other car which is a Nissan, they have a service called fuel treatment. But they have 3 or 4 bottles similar to this they pour in your gas tank. Plus they hook up some type of device inside your engine which cleans out I believe the fuel line & I saw all this black smoke coming out the tail pipes. The fuel treatment cleans cleans more than just fuel injectors.

I'll go a step further and say that the additive is not only without value, but it is pointless to use it in the first place. Even worse than adding this product to your fuel is their similar product that can be added to the engine oil...and to the transmission fluid - how 'bout their product to be added to the differential, and the brake fluid...and the coolant...and, and, and.

I dare say that more people have caused damage with these so-called 'additives' than they have added any protection. If you believe otherwise I suggest you jump in the car right now and go to your local PEP Boys or AutoZone or O'Reilly's and load up on all the various additives they have on the shelves - then your car will be sure to last forever. Those dumb-*** automotive and lubrication engineers don't know squat - leaving out the good stuff that you must buy as an additive!

Remember Slick50 oil additive and Duralube? What a joke. I think they got sued for false advertisement.
