And the area where the hood latches down, did you have to do anything to that area to make it fit good? I think I remember seeing a thread saying that it required another rubber seal for it to fit properly with no gap in that area

Yeah you need the new seal that follows the new grill. Also, the latch holder from the 16+ is also required.
I have to admit the GS 2016 or after look really good in Black! I wish had a little more patience and waited for that color. The Smokey"eye" Mica isn't too bad.
