Default spare tire size question

I plan to get 245/40-19 tires for my 2015 GS350 AWD F-sport. Do I need to change the spare tire size too?

The spare is not a full size wheel/tire. It’s what Lexus called a “space saver spare”.

The new size tire would be larger in height and diameter. I thought maybe a different size of temporary "space saver spare" should be used. Shouldn't the diameter and circumference match? If tire height/revs per mile doesn't match from side to side, isn't it hard on the differential(s)? see comparisons. The first is the original spare.

245/40-19 vs original spare

245/40/19 vs upsize spare

Personally I wouldn't be concerned with making the spare tire the same diameter as your up-sized tires on the car....unless you plan on driving on the spare for an extended period of time, which I rather doubt you would.

If you want to equalize the height it's very easy to do burnouts with a Space saver tire.

Been there done that.

You're probably right, I'm over thinking things. It just seemed like 4.7% was too much difference.

Seriously? .1 inch is so negligible. I bet you have at least that difference with current tires, because your current tires have worn down over time and the spare has full tread, probably never used.
Even if it was .5 inch difference it would not matter, it's a spare, and your only going to be driving so far with them.

More importantly check the tire pressure of the spare, mine was 15 psi and supposed to be 60 psi when I checked for the first time ever, it looses air over time, and nobody ever checks it.

Never seen a burnout in this car, too much traction.

Uh, it's 1.1" diameter, and 3.7" circumference difference. The .1 inch difference is if the spare was upsized too. Of course I wouldn't plan on driving too far on the spare, but you never know. You could be caught far from a repair place.

I glanced over it, yeah, that doesn't matter, as long as it's a properly inflated spare tire.

Space saver spare will fix that.

The donut is already smaller than the stock tire size anyway so +1 size won't matter much. Plus the donut is there to get u rolling to a nearest tire shop and 99% of the time u won't need it.

I always keep my display showing my tire pressure so I know if one tire is loosing air faster than the others and I can drive to a tire shop before it goes completely flat. Having a tire inflator helps too.

Excellent advice. It's a good idea to add air to the spare once a year - once every two years at the least. I'd recommend pumping that spare up to 75 psi because it will lose pressure over time and I'd rather have it carry too much pressure, than not enough...
