Default Cup Holder Plate Wont Shut

Tried searching and found nothing on this except instructions on how to remove the interior dash. I recently purchased a used GS 350 and so far I'm loving the car (had a civic before) but my OCD is kicking in because my cup holder plate wont stay shut. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm assuming if I want to inspect/replace the cup holder assembly, ill have to take out some of the interior pieces off such as the side panels but will I have to remove the entire center console (where the shift **** is) to access the cup holder assembly?

Welcome to CL.

When you state that the lid won't stay shut, does it open up all of the way?

I ask because, when closed, the lid doesn't sit flush with the console area around the gear selector. If it's just that, then your lid is normal.

It opens up all the way. It doesn't want to stay down. Every time I pressed down on it, it slowly opens back up.

@KpKpKp88 Please see the attached document. It's the front center console removal Instructions from the factory service manual.

Thanks for the instructions! I'll take a closer inspection to see if I can either repair it or replace it.

I took apart the console to run a wire for the GROM. I wish I had the instructions before I did that, but it wasn't too hard to figure out. Most everything just clips or snaps in, so a basic dash/panel removal toolkit will get it done.

So my g/f got me a cup holder phone stand since I refuse to stick anything on the leather, plus no room for it. Guess i'll be leaving it open for now and put this on the back burner. I'll definitely come back to it when I have a free weekend. Thanks for the quick replies!

This is what I use, much better than the plastic weathertech one:
