WAT? Did you have to change the display, or only the headunit?

I would totally do this to get full screen carplay

So the brown plug goes to the 16+ display cluster? What functionality did you lose?

You have to change the 12.3" display and the head unit to ones from a 2016+ GS
Full Screen Carplay is part of the reason I did it. Also the graphics on the 2016+ display is better and that loading screen at startup is saved to the 12.3" display itself, not from the head unit.

If you have a 2015 GS it's all plug and play.

I'm not sure maybe some multimedia stuff outputs to the instrument cluster. I don't loose any functionality as far as I can tell, I still have my 2013 instrument cluster.
This is just my guess with the brown plug I do know it is a video output, that's why I'm guessing it goes to the instrument cluster.
The green plug is exactly the same and that outputs to the 12.3" display

The 16+ instrument cluster displays several nav and audio info screens, so perhaps that has to do with the brown plug? Not sure.

That's what I suspected, thanks for confirming that. yes the brown plug is video output, so it's defiantly what the brown plug is for.

The 2017+ head unit don't have the brown plug, but there is one used spot on the green plug for 2016. So I guess for 2017+ they consolidated the two video outputs to just the green plug.

Did you get these parts out of a right hand drive car? Looks like most of the buttons are swapped from the left to the right and vice versa like the pwr/volume ****, track forward/back, climate control "auto" button, pause/play & eject buttons, etc.

Definitely a RHD radio, exactly the same layout as mine.

The steering wheel controls changed appearance between models, will the old ones work on the facelifted radio?

I'm actually not sure, I switched the face plate to 2013 and it works. I also swapped the 2016 lcd board so it scrolls up/down. My 2013 Power and volume buttons work.

I taped the sd card reader to the bottom of the unit.
This is a real Frankenstein now!

So I currently have a 2015... all I need to do is find a 16+ head unit and screen and it’s all plug and play?

I have a 2016, there's no CarPlay. Unless you're talking Beatsonic, GROM, etc.?

For the Radio there are 6 or 7 for the monitor there are 3, it's not something you would buy new, the radio new is over $10,000
Just search junkyards using car-parts.com or eBay. Any 2016+ radio and head unit will work.

Correct there is no carplay even for the 2020 GS, unless you get an aftermarket kit.
