WAT? Did you have to change the display, or only the headunit?
I would totally do this to get full screen carplay

So the brown plug goes to the 16+ display cluster? What functionality did you lose?

Full Screen Carplay is part of the reason I did it. Also the graphics on the 2016+ display is better and that loading screen at startup is saved to the 12.3" display itself, not from the head unit.
If you have a 2015 GS it's all plug and play.

This is just my guess with the brown plug I do know it is a video output, that's why I'm guessing it goes to the instrument cluster.
The green plug is exactly the same and that outputs to the 12.3" display

The 16+ instrument cluster displays several nav and audio info screens, so perhaps that has to do with the brown plug? Not sure.

The 2017+ head unit don't have the brown plug, but there is one used spot on the green plug for 2016. So I guess for 2017+ they consolidated the two video outputs to just the green plug.

Did you get these parts out of a right hand drive car? Looks like most of the buttons are swapped from the left to the right and vice versa like the pwr/volume ****, track forward/back, climate control "auto" button, pause/play & eject buttons, etc.

I'm actually not sure, I switched the face plate to 2013 and it works. I also swapped the 2016 lcd board so it scrolls up/down. My 2013 Power and volume buttons work.
I taped the sd card reader to the bottom of the unit.
This is a real Frankenstein now!

You have to change the 12.3" display and the head unit to ones from a 2016+ GS
